Draco started trying to pull away desperately. Hermione tensed and started pulling back, even though she knew it was pointless. "Remember what we discussed, dummy!" she hissed.
Draco stopped trying to pull but the sudden release of tension caused Hermione to stumble backwards, pulling Draco down with her. Draco landed on Hermione who winced at the sudden impact.
Then they realised their faces were mere inches away from each other and once more, all hell broke loose. "GET OFF, YOU OGRE!"
"SAYS YOU! THIS IS YOUR FAULT! YOU PULLED ME DOWN FIRST!"
"LET GO! MERLIN, SAVE ME!"
Maybe Merlin did hear her request for that second a house elf appeared. "Good day, Madam, Sir." it began. But it's eyes grew rounder and rounder with shock, fear and confusion.
It disapparated outside of the wards, where a grim faced Thomas Lawson stood.
"Sir, you must stop them!" begged the elf."No can do. They'll have to stop eventually, so don't worry. In fact..." the Auror mused. "Go back to the kitchens. I'll call for you..."
"Tinky, sir.""Tinky, when I've shut them up. Do you know if I'm to have lunch?"
"Tinky come to take your orders, sir, as well as that Madam and Sir." replied Tinky."I'll have mashed potato with sausages and some vegetables. Do you have any pumpkin juice and chocolate mousse?" ordered Lawson. The elf nodded and vanished. Meanwhile the Auror began finding little objects he had no use for.
He found a room with a few pencils in and transfigured them into stone walls. Then he began shooting destroying spells at them. The blasts echoed through the broom closet and shut the arguing pair up. "No no no no no... Hogwarts can't be under siege. " squeaked Hermione.
She had subconsciously gripped Draco's shirt in fear. Draco wondered why the brave Gryffindor who seemed to be able to withstand anything, cowered at the noise of a few booms.
Without notifing her, he gently probed her mind. It was 3 and a half years before. Hermione, Ron and Harry had just been captured by the Snatchers. "Hey, Beautiful. " grinned Greyback.
Hermione had taken a bad hit to the head and the tap of her wand in his hand was deafening, like someone was trying to knock down a wall. He leaned down to inspect her and did what Greyback does best. He bit her.
She thrashed wildly in pain, the constant tap of her wand reminding her of the danger they were in. Greyback had bitten her on the side of her neck and a little blood had leaked out. "Bet Bellatrix will want some." And they had Apparated away, another Snatcher still tapping the wand .
Draco knew what happened next. Yet he couldn't pull away. He was feeling as she was feeling, this memory was so full of emotion.
Draco stood over Harry. "I can't be sure..." A wave of relief washed over Hermione. But then, Bellatrix was on her and before she knew it...
Crucio!" It came out as a whisper but Hermione was in more pain than ever. "Tell me where you got that sword, you filthy little Mudblood!"
Hermione's eyes had glazed with tears by now but Draco saw himself, if indistinctly, standing aside, doing nothing. Now it was not the wand that made the noise but Lucius' shoes. "Please... we found it... AHHHHH" the whisper was weak before Hermione screamed her lungs out "TELL ME!" Hermione's cheek stung as Bellatrix slapped her, again and again. "Very well." She unsheathed her dagger. "Mudblood." Bellatrix spat as she began carving the fateful word into Hermione's arm. Draco saw himself again. There was no pity in his past self's eyes.
"Draco... please..." Hermione whispered, pain shooting through her arm as her torturer added a new letter. "Crucio!" cackled Bellatrix.
Draco forced himself to pull out then. For the first time in his life (and hopefully last in his eyes ), he put an arm around the sobbing Hermione and tried to comfort her.
Outside, Lawson had tidied away what remained. He was satisfied that the endless quarrelling had stopped but then he heard crying. "Oops..." he thought guiltily.
"Tinky!" the elf reappeared, balancing a tray of bangers and mash, with mousse and a jug full of pumpkin juice. Once checking he needed nothing more, Tinky reappeared in the cupboard.
Hermione was calming down slightly but she still allowed Draco to wrap his arms around her.
"Good day. My name is Tinky and I will be caring for you both. May I ask what you wish to eat for lunch?" "Macaroni" sniffed Hermione. "Same as her. Can we also have some pumpkin juice and 12 chocolate frogs?"
"Of course, sir. Tinky will be back very soon." "Thank you Tinky." replied Draco, knowing Hermione would disapprove if he didn't.
Hermione then started to try working out what she could and couldn't do concerning the spell and Draco.
"Look, I can stretch the bonds by about a metre or so." Draco was confused. "How come we couldn't do that when we were... upset with each other?"
"We can only do it when we are calm. I predict that we will argue about something else and all hell will break loose as we discover we can not move"
"Don't make prophecies... it was a prophecy that landed us in this anyway." Draco grumbled.
"You do realise I have Seer blood." Hermione replied casually.
"WHAT? I thought you were a muggle born" Draco yelled."Well you know when magical people were prosecuted, my family were muggles but they produced a muggle born witch. She had to hide her power and so became an Obscurus. Obviously she didn't know what she was but she was very controlled. My family think she was able to control herself because when she was a teen, she stumbled upon Diagon Alley and buried herself in prophecies. We have records that show she was hung in 1764 for witchcraft when she was 27. She never had the chance to have children and she never had the chance to go to Hogwarts because of Muggle prejudice. Therefore she was unable to save herself." Hermione's story touched Draco.
He never paid attention in History of Magic and this was a story from a Muggle point of view. I bet there are over a hundred others with a similar story. He thought. Everything was sombre, at least until Hermione told him that she never had a magical relative, not that she knew of and it was all a big joke.
Fortunately Tinky arrived then with their lunch and they both tucked in joyously. "Y'now, I'm definitely going to have armarophobia after this." Hermione commented.
"Armara what?"
"Armarophobia. Fear of cupboards. ""Yeah... I see your point. If anyone wants to force me near a cupboard any time soon, they will regret it." vowed Draco.
"You gotta admit it's a nice cupboard though. I mean... look at the bed, the desk, the chair, the sink, the bookshelves full of books... OH GODRIC HOW COME I DIDN'T NOTICE THEM BEFORE!" shrieked Hermione.
Before Draco could mutter "Oh, Salazar", he was being dragged across the room like he was being pulled by an extremely strong carthorse.
"GRANGER! I'M STILL HERE TOO!" His cry of protest was ignored by the determined Gryffindor.Much to her dismay, the bookshelf vanished.
The disheartened Gryffindor turned to a very very very smug looking Slytherin. "It's called wandless magic." And so, all hell broke loose once more and Hermione's 'prophecy' came true.
