In the Evening

After a long day at the office, Utkarsh arrived at Monika's house, luggage in hand. Monika looked at him in disbelief, her eyes widening with shock.

" You came with your luggage to live here? Are you crazy? " she demanded, her voice rising.

" Definitely not," Utkarsh replied, a smug smile playing on his lips.

" No, you are not allowed to stay here. Go back to your mansion," Monika said, blocking his path as he tried to step towards the room.

" This is my property, " Utkarsh stated calmly, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

" For fuck's sake, just shut up. What is your problem, actually? Did Tina tell you to do this? I know that bitch will never—" Monika started, her voice trembling with rage.

" It's you who's in my way. Tina has nothing to do with this—" Utkarsh cut her off, his tone dismissive.

" Go fuck Tina! Just leave me alone!" Monika snapped, infuriated at hearing Tina's name again.

" Watch your mouth, Monika," Avantika scolded her, stepping into the room with a stern expression.

" How can she watch herself when you never showed her a mirror? " Utkarsh retorted, now used to Monika's hatred for her stepsister. He blamed Avantika for not teaching her manners.

" How dare you say anything to my mother? " Fuming with anger, Monika kicked his luggage. "Get out, get out of my house!" She grabbed his elbow and tried to drag him out. Utkarsh moved a little but then held his ground, smiling at her useless efforts.

" Just stop it, both of you! "

Watching them getting physical with each other, Avantika intervened, pulling Monika aside.
" You both are adults. What kind of behavior is this? Exactly what do you want, Utkarsh? I just can't understand you. What has my daughter ever done to you that you hate her this much? I'm sorry for what you think is my fault, but just end this now. You have no right to insult her like this. "

" Mom, I told you I will handle it," Monika insisted, her frustration evident.

" No, I've seen enough how you guys are manhandling things. So just keep quiet," Avantika said firmly before turning to Utkarsh. " Utkarsh, I don't get it. Why do you want to show her how much you hate her? My daughter is not as bad as you think. She is better than Tina or anybody else. She is divorcing you now as you want, so just stop chasing her. "

Avantika glared at Utkarsh, daring him to speak another word.

" If you care about your daughter so much, then how can you sell news of your own daughter having an affair with her co-actor and being abused by me? " Utkarsh challenged, his eyes cold and accusing.

Avantika's face drained of color. " I..."

" Don't even think of lying to me. I know the person you paid for it."

" Utkarsh beta, all this... That's all part of the promotions. This is the way to stay in the media and create a buzz about the film. You won't understand this, Utkarsh. There is no harm in it," Avantika tried to cover up, her voice faltering.

" Oh, so you're saying selling the news is part of promoting her film, not her character? " Utkarsh's voice dripped with sarcasm.

" Utkarsh! If you don't know anything then don't argue with me " Avantika was finding difficult to answer this trouble boy.

" Are you okay with this, Monika? This is how you work? " Utkarsh hoped to see some argument between Avantika and Monika, so she could judge what was right and wrong.

" It's none of your business," Monika suppressed the frustration in her voice, her eyes blazing.

Utkarsh found her answer peculiar. How could she support her mother in something like this? To him, it seemed no different than being an opportunistic girl jumping at any chance for popularity.

" Okay then, go ahead. Be like your mother was in her past. Why fake it? Have a real affair with everyone. You're her daughter, so stay two steps ahead of her," Utkarsh taunted, his voice harsh.

" Don't tell me what to do or what not to do, " Monika retorted, her voice steady but filled with anger.

" You people are disgusting. That's why I want your kind out of my life and out of my property," Utkarsh spat, his eyes narrowing.

" And who are you to decide? " A deep voice interrupted. Mr. Karan Wadhwan entered the house, his presence commanding the room.

Everyone turned to look at him. Avantika sighed in relief.

" Thank God you came, Mr. Wadhwan. See, this is too much for me to handle," Avantika said, moving to stand beside Mr. Wadhwan, her voice a mixture of relief and frustration. After calling him last night, Avantika had been waiting anxiously for his arrival.

" Utkarsh, how many times have I told you to stop embarrassing me? Just stop bothering them. Let's go," Mr. Wadhwan ordered, his tone firm.

" Oh so she called you? " Utkarsh glared at Avantika, accusing her of summoning his dad. This manipulative woman just looked for excuses to call his dad. And see how quickly his dad came to their rescue. For the past two weeks, Karan hadn't spoken to Utkarsh, and now he was head over heels for these bimbos. Suddenly his dad's insolent behaviour punched him in his guts.

" Utkarsh I said let's go. There is a media outside and you know they are just waiting to capture you in the news" Mr. Wadhwan said, his patience is thinning.

" Oh, so calling the media is another method of yours to promote your daughter Mrs. Avantika kapoor? " Utkarsh mocked, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

" Utkarsh ::::" Karan warned him, his eyes narrowing.

" What dad? Do you even know these bimbos who you are taking sides with are   such a big liar and manipulator. This crazy lady spread fake news about her being abused by me, and now she's selling her daughter's character, and her crazy daughter is fine with it. Okay, Monika, it's fine with me now. I'll divorce you, and then you can go fuck whoever you want. "

Karan slapped him across the face, the sound echoing in the room.

Utkarsh was stunned for a moment, then fumed with anger at being slapped by his father in front of them.

" Just stop it now before I call somebody to drag you out, " Mr. Wadhwan said harshly.

" Just stop it now before I call someone to drag you out," Mr. Wadhwan said harshly, his face stern.

" Fine, Dad, go ahead! I'm your enemy, right? And they are your only family now. You can't hear a word against them, huh? Just because of this woman, you're turning against your son. I'm nobody, right? Okay then, bye. "
He shut the door loudly and stormed out, his mind a whirlwind of anger and betrayal.
