Monika woke up with a heavy head, and through blurry eyes, she noticed Utkarsh sleeping on the couch. She quietly slipped out of the room, making her way to check on her mother.
The doctor met her outside Avantika's room. " We managed to save your mother's life," he said, and Monika exhaled a sigh of relief, whispering a prayer of thanks.
Entering the room, Monika struggled to hide her tumultuous emotions. " How dare you, Mom? How dare you do something like this to yourself? " she demanded, her voice breaking.
" I'm sorry for everything," Avantika sobbed, embracing her daughter. Her heart ached with guilt, the weight of her actions pressing down on her. How could she have been so cruel to her only daughter, her only sunshine?
" Mom, I beg you. Please, never do this again. If you die, I’ll kill myself too," Monika said, her voice choked with tears.
" Don't say that, Monika. I'm... I'm really sorry. I'm ashamed of myself. I'm not a good mother," Avantika cried.
" No, don't say that," Monika said, pulling away to wipe her mother's tears.
" I am a terrible mother. I spiked your drink and planned for you to meet Prithvi," Avantika confessed. Monika stared at her, disbelief etched on her face.
Utkarsh, who had been eavesdropping, felt a pang of shock. He had suspected something was wrong, but this revelation confirmed the depth of Avantika's cruelty.
" I can't believe you, Mom. You know how much I'm struggling. This pressure is eating me alive. I'm trying so hard, pushing myself to the brink. I'm doing everything against my morals, but not this. Another man harassing me? Do you really think I can handle that? I'm not you, Mom. I have my limits, but you don't have. " Monika said, her voice laced with pain. She wanted to scream, to let out the frustration, but she kept her tone controlled, despite the storm raging inside.
" I'm so sorry, dear," Avantika cried harder, her tears flowing uncontrollably.
" You should be. I have only you, Mom. You must not betray me," Monika whispered, her voice filled with both anger and sorrow.
Leaving her crying mother on the bed, Monika went home, exhausted. She took some medicine to ease the throbbing pain in her head, washed her face twice, and then stared at her reflection in the mirror. She was different now. Was it the effect of drugs or you call this to act as mature? If it had been anyone else instead of her mother, she would have cursed them so loudly and hatefully that they’d believe there was no faith left in the world. But here she was, watching herself transform into someone unrecognizable.
After thinking hard, she called Prithvi, using the number her assistant had given her.
" Hello? " answered the devil who had ruined so many innocent lives.
" You disgusting bastard. If I ever see you near me or my mother again, I will expose you on social media with a big #MeToo hashtag, " Monika said, her voice trembling with rage.
Recognizing Monika's voice, Prithvi smiled. " Do it, honey. I'm already on the list," he replied arrogantly.
" Then your days must be numbered."
