Things to remember: ~Loki~ . Reader.

Loki is arriving back from a mission and your heart is pounding in your chest. He went with Thor to redeem himself in his brother and fathers eyes, to prove he wasn't a lost cause anymore. You didn't know as to which realm they went or how dangerous it was truly was. Thor never told you things like that and Loki refused to make you worry. You knew he could take care of himself that wasn't your concern but the fear that this wouldn't be good enough for Odin or Thor seeped into your heart. That Loki would forever be a trickster in their eyes and nothing more. That Loki would stop trying and only do what they expect of him, stay a backstabbing Jotun who can't be trusted.

You paced the throne room anxiously awaiting his arrival with Thor so they both can come before Odin. Odin sat like a statue glaring at you while you nervously paced and awaited the return of your lover. That's how things were since the queen mother died she was the glue that held together the small makeshift family. When she was killed everything got worse than it ever was before. Thor always blamed Loki for the events of that day and everyone knew it including Odin. No one realized just how easy it is to hate yourself when everyone else did as well. No one could loathe themselves deeper than the depths Loki took his self-hatred to.

When he was released from his cell by Thor he hid himself skillfully and his deterioration hid itself well but that wasn't the truth of what Thor saw when he demanded the illusion to come down.

How do you ever truly trust a liar?

You wait.

Until they think eyes are off of them and no one is watching.

You wait until they remove their own layers of weight and lies if they ever truly do.

Then you see the pale skin and unsteady hands. The shadows under weary eyes and raspy breathing. The carefully hidden scars under the sleeves of dark clothing and the thin lips to match it all.

Not many people are willing to wait for Loki.

One person.

The great doors were opened and Thor and Loki walked in with heated footsteps. Thor's fists were clenched and his anger swathed over him and off of him into the room. Loki however had careful footsteps and eyes that were lowered onto the floor. He hadn't seen you or made any effort to look towards you but the sight of seeing him after weeks overwhelmed you with love.

"Loki!" relief was evident in your voice and it over powered the room. He stopped and looked up in your direction opening his arms to receive you in a big hug. You forcefully pushed past Thor and stumbled blindly trying to reach him. Your hand trembled as you reached for any feel of him under your fingertips. All his skin was carefully hidden under pounds of armor and dusty thick cloth. His hands left goosebumps closing around the milky linen of your dress and the sun-kissed skin underneath.
