I wasn't going to update again so soon but today is Loki's birthday! (December 17) and I had to celebrate. It's short so I'm sorry but it's just a little something festive. Sorry for typos, I hardly went over it as many times as I usually do my work because I have so much other stuff to do.

You sat, staring at him from across the room. Your eyes peeking over an armchair as you watched him read in a window seat. Your excitement was poorly contained, a big smile graced your features and surely Loki sensed your unsettling gaze.

"Stop that," he grunted, not looking up from his book or even regarding you properly. His voice only furthered the wide smile that caused you to creep closer to him. Opting to sit below where he was and stare upwards as you did so, demanding his full attention. He fought it, pretending to read regardless if you knew you were far too distracting for him to continue. He submitted finally huffing in annoyance and looking away from his book.

"Fine, what do you want?" He asked, raising an eyebrow and failing to hide the smile that tugged on his lips.

Your hardly contained squeals burst forth from you at the question you had been waiting for all day. You had been trying to figure out what day Loki's birthday was on for years. Thor didn't even know himself but after a bit of digging you finally found out it was today, and your joy to be able to celebrate it was infectious.

Loki's face drained all at once, he looked even more pale than he usually did. "You know don't you?" His look of pure horror matched with the wavering of his tone struck a nerve in your heart. Still, you had been so excited at learning what today was you failed to realize or accept that maybe he wasn't a fan of the holiday.

You nodded with a dumb look on your face and Loki's look of disbelief turned to anger quickly. "Who told you? How did you find out!" He questioned, standing instantly and storming past you. You were quick on your feet to stand, watching as he threw the book he was reading in the general area of a bookshelf. You winced, the obvious tone of his body language spoke volumes and if you knew he would react like this you wouldn't have said anything.

"Loki- I..." You paused, he'd be even angrier if you told him you purposely looked for the answer to his birth date. Instead you glossed over the topic and walked your way over to him. "I wanted to celebrate like we always do my birthday," you mumbled, looking at his back and how tense the muscles were.

"Did it ever dawn on you that I don't want to celebrate?" He shouted again, you could only guess how horrid his face looked right now and you couldn't help but feel thankful he wasn't facing you. Thor had mentioned that Loki hadn't ever had a birthday, not even when he was a child. You had assumed that it was because he was left out or lied to about his parentage. You thought he'd be happy at your suggestion for celebration.

Instead of fighting, instead of making this into a bigger thing you didn't ask why. If he wanted to tell you he would have just like if he wanted his birthday known he would have mentioned it. You had been with Loki for a while now and while he was a man of many words his actions particularly meant more. "I'm sorry," you whispered, so quietly you were sure he didn't hear you or he chose not to respond.

Your mind raced to how you could make this better or the differing ways he could learn to love his birthday but instead you decided to stop looking for answer that would make you happy and find a solution that would fit Loki.

So you crept over to the book shelf where the manhandled book was under. The binder was broken and some of the pages were torn but nothing too drastic. Once you assessed the damage and decided it was still reliable reading material you tip toed over to him. You weren't nervous or inherently scared. It was Loki, your Loki. You'd seen him in worse moods than this and it was apparent you poked some wounds that weren't totally healed yet..

Your arms wrapped around his back, your cheek pressing against him and letting you inhale his scent. "I'm sorry," you said more clearly, and not waiting for a response," I shouldn't have mentioned it. It's your...history and if you don't want to share this part of it with me then that's okay. I love you and if it makes you feel better you can just buy me all the gifts," You ended your apology with a laugh and you felt him exhale in a way that suggested he thought it was funny as well. He felt less tense the longer you tightly hugged him, him not rushing to move and you not wanting to.

"It's not that I don't want to share it with you it's just..."

"You don't have to explain yourself to me." You said, cutting him off and shutting down the entire conversation he obviously wasn't comfortable having. In response he broke the hold you had on him, turning around to face you. You hadn't ever seen the expression that was written over his face before now. He leaned down, matching your height in order for him to be able to press his forehead to yours and hum quietly. You couldn't tell if it was his way of saying thank you or sorry for reacting so badly but either way you enjoyed the intimacy exchanged from the touch.

"Let me read to you, that's how I want to celebrate." His voice was loving and while it wasn't the extravagant birthday you had planned it was still his day to enjoy.

"Alright."

In a few short moments you found yourself pressed to  him, your back in his chest and his chin resting atop your head as you both sat once more in the window seat he had once abandoned. His voice droned on reading the battered book you had presented as an offering and your hands rested on either side of his wildly long legs.

"Happy birthday old man," you interrupted, smirking to yourself as he lost is train of thought. You bent your head back to look at him, leaving a kiss to the part of his jaw you could reach with ease. His eyes seemed amused and his smile was causing you to form one of your own. " I'm not that old."

I know it's not great but I'm short of time and I really need to get some work done. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOKI."
