"What are you doing?" He asked, peeping his head through your door. You had been so wrapped up in your own thoughts you hadn't even noticed him open it. There was the sound of early scattered fireworks, the clatter of party guests and Thor's boisterous laughter coming from the area outside your room. Tony's New Year bash. He had one every year with all the drinking and eating and merriment he could. Only the elite were invited and they most certainly drank enough alcohol to satisfy everyone for a year.

"Just bringing in the New Year," You returned, looking up from your small index cards and spot on the floor. The look on his face was that of a child, covered with wonderment and a dash of embarrassment upon his pale face.

"You aren't going to join the others?" He continued, stepping inside of the dimly lit room and leaving the door cracked for a speedy exit. His fingers tugged on his dark sleeves, you noticed it but tried not to stare as his fingers wrapped around the fabric. A nervous tick, the fact that he was nervous around you of all people... "Parties aren't really my thing, at least not on New Years," you smiled at him watching as his own lips formed into a thin one.

You loved him. You still loved him. You couldn't help it, it wasn't like you could just erase all the feelings you had for him or the memories you shared. Like how he despised parties generally, or enjoyed being held more than holding another. If you regretted anything that happened this year it was letting him go even if it pained you to do it. Your relationship was complicated, all the lying, hurting, and toxic arguments still didn't null the fact of how much you loved him. If anything that's what made the relationship so sick, you loved him so much and he wasn't good at receiving or giving it.

"Mind if I join you?" He continued, avoiding making eye contact with you but nevertheless somehow managing to give you a pleading look.

"Of course Loki," you sighed, spreading out to move all the scattered pens and index cards you had dumped on the floor. Just enough to make room for him to sit besides you. Your balcony doors were open, allowing cool air to enter and your curtains to flutter periodically. This was exactly how you always started the year, cool air around you, dim lights and nothing but you alone with your thoughts. Except now Loki was here with you and that was strange.

"What are you writing?" Loki continued to question, folding his long legs criss cross as he sat by your side. You hummed, collecting your pen and blank index cards, you didn't really know how to explain the ritual. As far as you knew you were the only one religious on the team excluding Thor and Loki who were Gods. You had never mentioned it to Loki, he wouldn't understand. He'd just laugh at you but what else could you lose? You had already broken off the relationship you so desperately wanted and if you were going to say anything about it you might as well now.

"Well... sins and regrets of the year." You winced as the expression he had turn from one of interest to misunderstanding. His dark brows furrowed and the way he looked at you felt wrong.
