You woke up in the middle of the night to crying coming from the baby monitor. Something that had been happening for what seems like decades and every night you and Loki ever tried to sleep. You were both barely functioning on limited amounts of sleep and too much caffeine.

Levi was a welcomed and loved addition to you and Loki's little family but he was hard to console. Specifically, when he turned into his jotun form which then only Loki could calm him down but not without resistance. There would be nothing wrong with him, no hunger or dirty diaper. He would just crave his father's presence comforting him in their own special blue way.

Loki lay besides you sleeping peacefully and soundly spread out on his stomach. He had been bearing the weight of your son's night crying and letting you stay in bed for the longest. No matter the kind of night he had you would always wake up to a big breakfast and his warm smile to match.

Loki always put you and Levi's needs over his own physical and mental state which wasn't healthy no matter how much you loved him for it. You felt obligated to get up and check in on the nursery without waking up your sleeping husband.

You tipped quietly down the hall before entering the nursery you and Loki had decorated just for Levi.

"Shush, mommy's here," you cooed making your way over to the crib and lifting him up in your arms. "Please don't cry, it's okay baby." You rocked him gently to no avail and continued to hush the baby. All at once his skin started to turn blue and his green eyes turned a dark crimson color. You winced it pain at the stinging such a raw and intense cold had on your flesh but you didn't set him down or stop trying to comfort him, not even for a second. Not even when your skin started to tingle with numbness or the crying seemed endless. "I know you want papa but he needs his rest okay?" You back tracked and sat in the comfortably padded rocking chair across the room. You hummed a song that seemed to silence him a bit but when your concentration broke on the intense burning feeling your arms held he would cry ten times harder.

"What happened?" a groggy Loki said rubbing his eyes in the doorway. His hair was wispy and swelled in it's natural bed head state. You could practically hear the exhaustion in his voice.

"Nothing, go back to bed I've got him." You tried to give him a reassuring smile but Loki knew better. He shook his head and bent down to your sitting level as to take Levi from your arms. "It's okay, you go get your rest," he whispered and kissed you on the forehead. On contact with Levi Loki's skin turned blue with it's own ridges and bumps forming on it.

"If you stay up i'll stay up with you," you yawned and watched him bounce Levi in his arms in his own attempt to silence him.  "(Name)-" Loki started obviously wanted you to go back and rest.

"We're a team remember?" You said sleepily and gave him a drowsy smile. He nodded thoughtfully and paced with the baby in his arms.

Your own arms weren't entirety A-okay but you managed to rest your head on one arm  for support and curl up in the chair.

"Tell him a story," you urged more or less wanting one yourself. Loki always told the best stories and they would surely calm Levi.

He looked at you with those blood red eyes for a moment before nodding and searching for one.

"This is the story of a God named Loki. Unwanted, left on the battlefield by those meant to care for him. Found by a king to be used as a tool. Yet still he was adopted into a family with a brother he didn't always get along with. Mainly because Loki was trapped in some wicked dealings over the long harsh centuries. Until all he was known for was evil. That title and definition let him spiral deeper and deeper with every wrong he did until he was doomed to be nothing more than Loki the villain. Loki the unwanted son," Loki broke off his story and took a deep  breath. Levi was all but sniffling at this point but Loki's back was turned to you. You moved to ask him if he was okay but a little late before the wailing returned and he started pacing and continuing his story once more.

"Known and defined by these crippling terms until the day he died. So he dies, which in turn became his greatest scheme of all..."

"It's a little too sad to be a bedtime story isn't it? You said over Levi's unabashed crying and wailing.

"No interruptions i'm not finished," he said quickly turning his back to you again this time holding Levi closer to his body and finishing his tale.

"That was until he tricked a beautiful midgardin woman into loving him. She saw him not as a villain or a God but as a broken soul in need of repairing. She did just that by loving him and shaping him into the man his brother, mother and even his father could be proud of. No longer was he Loki of misdeeds but his slate was washed of all the innocent blood it held. Loki tried his hardest to convince himself he was worthy of such a woman by proving day in and day out he would pledge his undying fidelity to her and only her. Concerning himself with her smile and joy along with her well-being. He cared for her as he never had anyone before. So he asked her to marry him and she said yes to him without a second thought surprisingly . Loki the once unloved and unwanted thought he could never make this life he had with her better. Only to be surprised again by the news of a little being forged with her and him also. And they welcomed that being into a world where he would never be alone or unwanted and unloved. Loki's heart swelled twice as big, inviting in enough love and happiness he never thought he would have to give. And ever since that day he swore to give and give until fate made him to leave this place. Happier than ever before."

Levi had long since stopped crying and had fallen asleep in his fathers cold arms. Loki eased him back into the crib watching as he returned back to his own cream colored state yet a happy sleeping Levi did not. Ultimately decided he wanted to stay how he was for the rest of the night.

Loki smiled down at the infant and brushed one loving finger down his cheek. "Goodnight my little being," he said as he took a step back.

"How was that?" He said in a quiet voice with a big smile on his face. He whirled around to see you sleeping peacefully in the chair you were sitting in. And he couldn't help but chuckle at his sleeping family.

There was no question he would carry you back to bed being careful as to not wake you. He had made up in his mind about it before he had even lifted you up in his arms.

Careful as to not wake the now sleeping child or you as well. He lifted you up bridal style and walked lightly out of the room. Periodically glancing down at your sleeping form and smiling to himself. No matter how tired he was or how much he needed one restful break. He would always find time for you and Levi no matter what.

"I might not be able to keep you warm but I will do everything in my power to keep you happy." He whispered even if you weren't lucid to hear him. Even if there was no way you could hear him. He trusted you would know.

You always did.

Notes: looks like we're doing shorts! This will help me write some of the not fully fledged out one-shots in my inbox and give them a home. And an extra update treat since they are short and easy to write. (What I mean by not fledged out is that there is no conflict or driver for the story. It's just a short sweet insight. Or there is conflict and a driver but it doesn't reach my regular word count.)

If you're wondering if I specifically wrote a good person Loki who likes children only to spite my own inner personality complex Loki you would be correct.

As always thanks for reading, liking and commenting. I love your feedback and requests and I am diligently working on them even when it feels as though I've disappeared. -Eira
