Chapter 22
These peaceable years
Three years flew buy without event. It was quite beautiful, one shall say.... These peaceable years were by far far the best of my life. Until, that is, the day we got the scroll. A messenger hawk had appeared seemingly at random upon our open windowsill, bearing a note.
It reads as told:
'Dear person(s) of this household,
As you may know, the fifth great ninja war is upon us, and as so, this letter states that the eldest inhabitant of every house is hereby volunteered to fight in the front lines. Failure to do so shall result in your immediate disposal. All households are accounted for.
With honor, strength, justice, and pride, we send this note of detachment to all.
Date of dispatch: two weeks
Place of meeting: Sunagakure

"No." I say as we finish reading the scroll, setting it down on the table only to have the hawk snatch it up again, dropping a proof note in its place. I shake my head. He just stares at his feet. "Deidara, I-" "No!" I say again, more firmly. "I-I can't lose you again!" I feel a familiar sting in the backs of my eyes. "And I can't risk you getting hurt again..." He says gently, stepping closer and cupping my face in his hands. "We have to stop running away from our problems..." He looks into my eyes and I see hurt, fear, and anger in his beautiful brown orbs. "I know..." I whisper, resting my forehead on his shoulder. He pulls me in. "I'm sorry..."
By the time we pull away, his shirt is wet with tears. "We've got two weeks, honey." He says sweetly, holding my shoulders. I nod. "And do you really think I'd be stupid enough to die? Do you think I'd leave you?" "No." "Who knows how long this war's even been going on? Perhaps it won't last long enough for me to even fight." "They wouldn't ask if they didn't need." "That's not true. The government has been known to lie in past... Plus, we've been isolated for so long." "I don't wanna' talk about it anymore..." He nods. He understands. "Can we take a walk?"
