Chapter 14

The dreams are back

It's the middle of the night, I awake to hear the front door creak open. I thought we'd closed that... I look over to see Sasori sleeping soundly next to me, but I can't move. I see something dark, like a shadow creep inside the house, and prowl across the kitchen. The door swings closed behind it with a loud bang. I flinch, and look beside me to see Sasori isn't there anymore...

I only closed my eyes for a second! I still can't move. I look to my right, down the dark hall that leads to the weapons room to see a foot being dragged off... Sasori's foot. Panicking, I look back to the kitchen. A wolf, the biggest one, the leader is right at the foot of my bed. It snarls, and pounces. I try to scream, but nothing comes out, it grasps my leg with its teeth-

"Deidara!" I awake in Sasori's arms. It's been three weeks since we tried to leave last, and we're planning on leaving at first light. "Deidara!" Sasori says again, shaking me. I realize I'm sobbing, clutching his shoulders. "You were screaming in your sleep!" He says, pulling me close. "Th-the wolves... They got you! You weren't there and-" "shhh..." He says. "It's okay. I know. I'm here."

"But I'm scared..." I sob as he rocks me in his arms. "Dei, I thought there dreams had stopped..." He whispers, concern in his voice. "They did..." I reply, "But last time we tried to leave you got hurt..." He sighs. "I just- I don't know what to do anymore." I admit. It's been hard living on our own as is, and to have this happen... To have to start all over... To have our one chance at something new be ruined the minute we try to escape... It's devastating.

He brings my face up to look at him. "Listen... We just gotta try again, okay?" He says with a sad smile. I can tell he's just as upset as I am; he's just really good at hiding it. I slowly lean in so our lips are almost touching. "Will you just- hold me?" I breathe. He kisses me.

(Sasori POV)

I kiss him. He's so vulnerable when he's had a nightmare, I can't help but try to make him feel my love. When he's susceptible he knows that I'll always be here... "What's- going to- make them- stop?" I ask between fragile kisses. He shakes his head. I pull him closer, trying my best to comfort him in this moment of fear.

(Deidara POV)

The truth is, I have no idea how they'll stop, but right now, I just need him to hold me... After an eternity, we break away. I feel my cheeks redden. "Sasori..." "Hmmm?" He asks, eyes still closed. "My love is eternal..."
