I hate walking home late at night, especially at this side of town. I really wish I have a car. It would make everything so much easier but sadly, I'm poor and have an alcoholic gambler as a father.

Out of the blue, my gut is telling me that someone's following me. Trusting it, I grab my pepper spray out of my bag and hold it tightly in my hand, ready to spray at anyone that comes in sight.

I speed up my pace and could feel two heavy footsteps behind me. Suddenly, I feel a tight grip on my shoulder and a pull. The mysterious person turns me around and I aim the pepper spray at him. With a loud scream, I spray him and quickly run away.

He looks like one of Caspian's guards. I can hear him groaning in pain behind me but I continue to run away.

A car suddenly pull up beside me as I run. I watch as the window scrolls down to reveal Kaden making me stop in my track.

"Get in," he call out. I look at him and back to the guy I just peppered spray to see another one of Caspian's guys running towards me. I look between them, hesitating.

I definitely don't want to go back to Caspian's club so I quickly open the door and get in Kaden's car. He drives away as soon as I close the door.

Catching my breath, I look at the side mirror to see both of Caspian's guys standing still and watching the car drive away. I let out a relief sigh that they're not coming after us and relax in my seat.

"Why are they after you?" Kaden ask, making me realize that I'm still in his car.

I stay quiet for a few seconds, trying to come up with an excuse. "Who knows," I start casually, "This is the dangerous side of town. They could've been murderers or...thugs." I end awkwardly, but still hoping he won't ask anymore questions.

I can see him sending me a suspicious glance at the corner of my eyes but act unbothered by it even though my shoulder is tense.

"Then why are you walking around here at this hour? Don't you have a car?" He asks.

I lower my head and answer shyly, "No." When he doesn't say anything else, I loosen my shoulders in relief.

"You can drop me off here," I tell him.

"So that guy you pepper sprayed can come finish his job? No." He shake his head. I don't know when he started being such a caring guy but I don't like it. I don't want to be involved with anyone especially not with a guy with a reputation like Kaden.

"I live only a few blocks away. I can walk the rest of the way," I lie to get away from him.

He gives me an offended look. "Hey, I saved your life. You should be thankful."

I roll my eyes at his dramatic response. Saved my life? I didn't ask him to. And even if he didn't come, I probably could've outrun them. Or they probably would've just taken me to have a little chat with Caspian and let me go.

Instead of saying what's on my mind, I answer, "Thank you for saving my life. You can drop me off here."

"I can take you home," he insists. "Tell me where."

Why does he keep insisting on taking me home? Is he thinking of doing something to me? Now I kind of wish I didn't get in his car.

"Stop the car!" I raise my voice, losing my patience. He hits the brakes in surprised at my sudden temper and I quickly open the door to get out. He grabs my arm to stop me. In a hurry, I bite his hand that's on my arm. He lets go of me and yell out in pain.
