"Kaden will pay for what he did. You and Kaden will pay...I wanted him to know how it feels to have his loved one taken away from him right in front of his eyes." His voice echoes over and over again in my head like a broken record.
It was me. I'm the one he wanted to kill. He never intended to kill Kaden. I was supposed to get hit, not Kaden.
"I wanted him to know how it feels to have his loved one taken away from him right in front of his eyes."
I wipe away the tears rolling down my cheeks nonstop and rub my eyes.
It's been hours since Kaden was rushed here to the operating room. I've been sitting here, bawling my eyes out.
Everything just hurts - my eyes, body, and heart.
"What happened?" Tiffany approach me with a very concerned look.
I open my mouth to answer her but a certain doctor catches my eyes and I immediately stand up, walking pass Tiffany and towards him.
He's the doctor that was with Kaden when they brought him in.
"Is Kaden okay? How is he?" I asks.
"Are you related to the patient?" The doctor asks.
"I'm..." my voice trail off.
"I'm his mother." Her authoritative voice answer behind me. I turn around to see Mrs. Pierce walking towards us.
"How's my son, Doctor?" She asks, standing beside me. I lower my eyes and turn back to the doctor, afraid and ashamed of her.
"He's stable now but it's hard to say for certain at this point. During the accident, your son's head suffered a great deal of impact. I did the best I could to repair the damages to his brain but i'm afraid we won't know for certain until he wakes up...Or if he wakes up at all." The doctor explains.
"Are you saying there's a chance he won't wake up at all?" I asks, worried.
He looks at me with a serious expression. "Yes. We can hope for the best but we have to be prepared for the worst."
My jaw drop, a silent gasp escapes.
It's all my fault.
"I do have another patient to attend to, but if you need anything else, just let the nurse know. Excuse me." The doctor walks away.
I look up to Mrs. Pierce only to be hit with her hand across my cheek. The slap immediately stings my cheek and I could feel blood rushing to it.
I can hear Tiffany letting out a shocked gasp a few feet away from me.
I stand still, shocked by her sudden action.
I deserved it.
After a moment of silence filled with tension, I finally speak up. "I'm so sorry." My voice comes out as a soft whisper, ashamed of what I caused.
She looks at me furiously, anger fills her eyes. "If you take one step into Kaden's room, I will call security and make sure that you never step foot in this hospital ever again," she warned, her voice laced with venom.
She turns away and walk inside Kaden's room.
Tears silently makes its way down my cheeks.
"Don't worry. Everything's going to be fine." Tiffany reassure me.
I look at her. "I have to see him," My voice break into sobs.
"Go sit down. I'll try to convince Mrs. Pierce to let you see him." She smiles.
"Thank you." I walk back to the same seat I was sitting on earlier.
After about 10 minutes, Tiffany comes back in a hurry.
"Mrs. Pierce went out. I don't know how long she'll be gone so let's hurry up before she comes back." She quickly tell me in one breath.
I immediately get up and follow after Tiffany to Kaden's room.
"Thank you." I thank her before entering Kaden's room.
I slowly make my way towards Kaden, still in shock at the sight of his lifeless body on the bed.
The only sound in the room is the beeping of the machine next to his bed.
I look down at his bruised face. His forehead is wrapped in gauze, but I could see a bit of blood bleeding through it.
My hands instinctively cup his cheek as my thumb gently stroke it.
Please be okay. Please wake up. I keep praying before a thought occur to me.
I raise my hand off Kaden's face and drop it to my side before turning to Tiffany who's keeping watch by the door.
"Who's Hannah?" I asks Tiffany to know the truth and not just what Caspian told me.
Tiffany furrows her eyebrows in shock at my sudden question. I could tell she's hesitating by looking back and forth between Kaden and I.
"She was Kaden's first love," Tiffany finally answer. "They were happy and so in love despite Mrs. Pierce's opposition. Soon after they dated, Hannah was pregnant with Kaden's baby. But Kaden didn't know. Somehow Mrs. Pierce found out and threaten Hannah to get an abortion. At that time, Hannah was being bullied for her notorious family's reputation. She had a miscarriage and killed herself."
I can't believe what I'm hearing. It's all true.
"It's not Kaden's fault, Casey." Tiffany try to assure me. "Mrs. Pierce covered it up and blamed it on the bullying that drove Hannah to take her own life. She kept Kaden out of it to protect her reputation. Kaden later found out that Hannah was pregnant and the mother he loved dearly covered up his first love's death. From then on, he vowed to ruin his mom, ruining her reputation and pissing her off the best he could." She finish explaining.
It finally make sense now. Everything that happened between Kaden and his mom. That's why he resent her so much.
Caspian thought it was Kaden's fault all this time. He's so determined to hurt Kaden.
