6 years later
If you've asked me 6 years ago where I'll be right now, I would've said still taking care of Dad and paying off his debts.
It's weird how life turns around.
It took two years just for Caspian's case to be over. He's going to spend the rest of his life in a prison cell.
During those two years, I was in a protective witness program with a new identity, Emily Adams. I had no contact with anyone I knew. It was like my previous life didn't exist at all. Like Casey Smith never existed.
After the case finally ended, I was free. I kept my end of the deal with Mrs. Pierce. I got out of Kaden's life and never looked back. It was for the better.
The cold water rushes over my feet, waking me up from my reverie.
I love the ocean. The sound of the waves. The nice breeze. The feeling of sand between my toes. It's refreshing.
I moved to a small town near the Bay Area and have been living here for the past 4 years.
At the corner of my eyes, I see a light pink scarf, coming my way with the wind. I notice a woman chasing after it so I quickly catch it before it flew away.
She walks towards me with a smile of relief.
"Thank you so much!" The woman tell me. She's pretty.
I return her scarf to her with a smile, "It can get pretty windy around here."
"Alisa! Our reservation is ready," someone called out, catching the attention of the woman.
She turns around to see the person. My eyes follow hers and my heart stopped once I saw who it was.
I watch as he jogs to us. More specifically, to the woman in front of me.
He looks at her, focusing only on her. Unknown to the fact that I'm standing right in front of him.
"Hey," she greet him with a warm smile as she wrap her arms around his waist. "My scarf flew away and this nice lady caught it before it went into the water."
He finally look up at me and there it was again, those eyes. The same ones I fell in love with. The same ones that made me feel loved.
After 6 long years, I finally got to see him again.
"Casey," a soft whisper leaves his mouth.
No one has called me that name in so long. It sounds so foreign to me.
"Oh my god. You're Casey?" The woman whose name I assume is Alisa question in shock. I finally break our eye contact and look at her in confusion.
"I can't believe you're here. We've been looking all over for you." She tells me then smile brightly.
She continues, "I'm sorry. You probably have no idea who I am. Kaden's told me so much about you." I watch as she move the hairs in her face behind her ear and notice the ring on her finger.
Oh.
"Casey, this is Alisa." I turn to Kaden, waiting for him to continue. "...My fiancé."
