Kady POV:

I feel my body being jerked about..
But I can't do anything
What's happened?
I just wanted to scare Jace a little.
I hear faint murmurs, I can't understand the words or who is speaking. It feels like a dream.
Then, I'm all of a sudden spluttering and coughing liquid.
Onto Jace's face.
Why is his face so close to mine?
The pool. We jumped in the pool.
Did I drown?
He saved me.
Why?
Suddenly I'm crushed up against someone, I can tell from her perfume that it's Kassy.
I'm still trying to piece everything together.
I'm still trying to catch my breath.
I hug her back. Her hugs are so nice.
I look around and see a crowd.
They look concerned.
Everyone is patting Jace on the back.
"You know he saved your ass right?" Someone shouts at me.
Jace and Kassy give them the stink eye and they back away. I'm pretty sure they ran.
I nearly died and people still find an issue with me. Wow.
"How are you feeling? Are you alright? Do you need anything? Can you breathe properly? What can I do?" Kassy splutters out in a panic.
I start to hear sirens coming closer.
Are they for me?
"I'm okay Kass. It's okay" I reassure her.
I see Jace sat with his hands covering his face doing breathing exercises. Is he alright? Looks like he's recovering from a panic attack or something.
He looks straight up at me, like he knew I was staring at him. He stands up abruptly and leans on the wall, acting like he's a macho man.
"Did you save me?" I say without even thinking. I choke and stutter a little bit because well it's Jace, he's hated me for as long as I can remember. I can't imagine he'd be the one to save me.
"Erm, yeah I guess? I don't know.. are you alright?" he says nervously but genuinely concerned.
I'm rendered a little bit speechless from that and all I can do is nod.
Then I do something I never expected I would ever do to Jace Nash.
I get up.
I stumble over.
And I hug him.
I wrap my arms around his waist and I lean my head against his chest and I just hug him. Tightly.
He's freaked out by this encounter at first.
Oh god. What have I done?
I'm going to look like such an idiot.
Then, suddenly..his arms wrap around my shoulders, hugging me back.
Holding me tight.
He gives good hugs.
I whisper without even thinking "I was trying to stay down there a little extra so you'd panic but turns out I did actually drown. I'm a dumbass. I'm sorry. Thank you for helping me."
Dammit.
He sighs and hugs me tighter.
I close my eyes and just stay there for what felt like hours.
I totally forgot there was a crowd until the paramedics came in and started ushering people out.
After a gruelling 25 minutes of being assessed, they are almost positive that I haven't swallowed anymore water. Fantastic!
Then, they told me I should go home and stay rested for the next few days.
That means I get the rest of the week off school.

Everyone apart from Jace left. Everyone was told to leave. But, he had a word with the paramedics and they said he could stay.
Weird.
He stayed throughout it all.
He just sat there with his hands covering his face staring at nothing or he was on his phone. He never really looked up. He never really looked up at me.
But that's a good thing because they made me take my hoodie off. I was just sat there in a red tank top.
It falls silent. All that echos the large room is the paramedics packing up their equipment.

Then I hear Jace whisper "Kady, you fucking scared me." And with that he walked off before I even had time to look at him.
Why did he say that then leave?
Do you think he meant to say that out loud?
Why did he stay throughout the assessment?
What did he say to the paramedics so that they'd let him stay?
"Kady, you should gather your things and go home. We've spoken to the Principal. Everything is sorted. You can just go when you're ready to. Get some rest. If you begin to feel unwell, visit the hospital or ring 911 for some advice" one of the paramedics explain with such a soft caring calm voice. They're all packed up and they begin to leave. I just watch them leave and don't even move an inch.

After a few minutes of just staring at the wall, day dreaming. I decide it's time to get going. I really am tired.
I go to put my hoodie back on. It's so heavy from all the water. I stick my arms and head in and begin to try worm my way into this weighted garment. So much effort. My arms begin to get tired. I'm out of breath.
Then, someone starts laughing.
Wait
I know that laugh....
