Sesshomaru was uncertain as to whether killing this ‘wolf lord’ was even worth his time, but the one thing that he was indeed sure of was that, with whatever might occur in the near future, he did not want Rin getting caught in the middle of it. He supposed he didn’t want Jaken getting hurt either. (Though he would never admit to any of this)
Rin was after all, still a human, and a child nonetheless.
He had brought the two of them into battles with him many times before, but that had usually ended up being a hindrance. (The proper word was weakness, though he wouldn’t admit to that either – admit that the great Sesshomaru did indeed have a weakness… that weakness being the wellbeing of his traveling companions whom he had……grown close to.)
He did not want Hana getting hurt either – even if the man that he wished to kill was her father.
That father of hers obviously had a death wish – and Sesshomaru would soon grant that wish.
In the midst of his thinking, he had thought that he heard a low growl. Sesshomaru examined his surroundings only to soon realize that the cause of the sound had not been an enemy but Rin’s stomach. He looked down at the little girl standing next to him and spoke to her:
“Rin,” he said, causing her to look up at him, “you may go find food if you want.”
“Thank you, Milord,” Rin replied soon diverging from the path that they had been walking down and disappearing into the bushes. He then addressed Jaken without looking at the toad demon.
“Go with her, Jaken,” Jumping at the sound of his name and then bowing, Jaken followed after Rin.
Sesshomaru then continued on with Hana walking next to him – he had faith in the imp and in the fact that he would be able to find them.
Though a usually unfeeling dog demon, there were still things that Sesshomaru enjoyed – moments of peace being one of them.
Through the few openings in the canopy of trees towering above, flickers of moonlight shone down on both him and Hana, who was sitting next to him – obviously over thinking, once again.
Hana’s presence had also become something that he had grown to somewhat enjoy, and he no longer had the need to deny it. He looked over at her as she sat cross legged with a detached look on her face. He didn’t wish to appear curious, but a part of him wondered what was on her mind.
She seemed to have sensed his staring, for she soon turned to look at him. Hana blinked, and the expression of curiosity on her face indicated that she was now wondering why he was looking at her in the way that he was. That expression, however, did not last long as her initial, sad and detached look soon returned.
“I’m sorry,” she mumbled, and a faint smile suddenly appeared on her soft pink lips. “I’ve become so immersed in my silly thoughts that I seemed to have worried even you, Lord Sesshomaru.”
He looked away from her, instead focusing on the trees above them and the small part of the moon that he was able to see through the openings in the canopy.
“I am not worried. I am merely curious as to what thoughts have the power to make even such an optimistic female such as you sad and worried.”
“You mean you actually wish to know what I’m thinking…?” Surprise was evident in her voice. He looked back down at her and noticed that the look of curiosity had returned.
“I never said that,” he denied her accusation, “…but if you wish to tell me, then I will not stop you.” Hana smiled; this time it was not as faint as the other one.
