From the expression on his face, one could easily tell that Sesshomaru had been greatly annoyed by the interruption. Whoever had actually possessed the audacity to intrude on him would surely die.

The demon standing before him gave a sharp-toothed grin.

“You don’t seem very amused, Sesshomaru. Did I…interrupt something important?”

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes as he glared at the demon which he recognized all too well. It was the demon whom he had foolishly allowed to flee. Now he knew that he really should have killed the yokai when he’d had the chance.

The demon took one large step closer.

“You chose not to kill me when you had the chance, and now I am back with a vengeance.”

Sesshomaru remained silent for a moment, merely eyeing the demon cautiously. He glanced back at Hana who was standing behind him.

“Get back,” he ordered, and, nodding, she complied. She was still slightly wounded from her confrontation with her father; he did not wish for her to get injured any further. He could no longer deny that Hana’s safety and wellbeing were important to him.

He then returned his gaze to the ugly yokai in front of him that seemed eager to die.

“If you wish to die just as your worthless brother had, then so be it,” he said flatly, his voice unwavering. He then unsheathed the Tokijin. And though his voice seemed full of confidence, he knew that this would not be easy.

But he often enjoyed a challenge.

“Prepare to die.”

Sesshomaru showed no sign of being even slightly bothered by the yokai in front of them.

Hana, on the other hand, looked on nervously a slight distance away from where Sesshomaru stood. She hadn’t a clue as to who the demon was, but it seemed that it had fought with Sesshomaru sometime before. Though he’d been slightly disheveled when he’d returned earlier, she’d been confident that Sesshomaru had easily been able to defeat whatever demon he’d been fighting. But now, she was beginning to wonder.

She’d become so lost in thought that she didn’t notice what was taking place in front of her until she heard the demon give a nasty, blood-curdling laugh. She looked up and saw that Sesshomaru and the demon had moved even farther away from where she was standing. Sesshomaru seemed annoyed, yet still calm, and the other demon wore a large grin on its face (at least she thought it was a grin).

“Sesshomaru,” she heard the demon mock, “tell me. Are you really that calm? Or are you boiling with anger and annoyance underneath that façade of yours?” He laughed once more. “I see you’ve finally realized that I’m much smarter than my ogre of a brother was – and a lot faster.” He taunted even more.

The demon then did something that neither Hana nor Sesshomaru had quite been expecting – he disappeared. Surprised, Hana gasped as the demon suddenly reappeared behind Sesshomaru.

“What did I tell you?” His grin grew wider as he raised his large, clawed hands, about to strike. In an instant Sesshomaru spun around, bringing Tokijin with him in an attempt to cut the demon down, but the demon quickly disappeared once more, this time reappearing where it had originally been standing. Hana began to realize that maybe the demon wasn’t disappearing and reappearing, but merely moved too fast for her to notice.

“When we said we were finally going to taste the blood of the Lord of the West, we meant it.”

Hana glared at the yokai, slightly annoyed. This demon was a bit too talkative and cocky - even for her.

A part of her felt somewhat useless just standing there and watching, but she knew that Sesshomaru didn’t want her to get involved. And this time, she was planning on actually listening to him.

“You fool,” Sesshomaru finally spoke, his voice low, “do you really think that I could be defeated by the lowly likes of you?”

Sesshomaru leapt forward, somehow managing to still appear graceful, taking a swipe of his sword, but of course, missing as the yokai dodged his attack once again. Hana could see the annoyance in Sesshomaru’s eyes.

Couldn’t they go even a short while without some demon taking a shot at killing Sesshomaru?

(Or herself…for that matter?)

Hana never saw when the demon reappeared, but that had only been because the demon was now standing behind her. Everything that had happened after that was a slight blur.

The demon stood behind Hana, about to sink his large, sharp claws into the girl’s back. Sesshomaru glared as the demon shot him an evil grin.
This yokai was fast – it was a fact – but he was also quite a nuisance.
Sesshomaru was growing weary of his antics. Sesshomaru decided that he would end this fight there and then.

The yokai wasn’t the only demon with speed on their side.

Quickly, Sesshomaru rushed to Hana’s with a speed that probably would have been undetectable to human eyes or those of lower class demons. Just as the yokai had been about to strike, the dog demon took Hana in his arms, creating much distance between himself and the other demon. This was, evidently, much to the yokai’s surprise.

He set Hana on her feet, instructing her to be more aware of her surroundings, and then brought his eyes back onto the demon now standing a slight distance away. The grin that was once on his ugly face was now long gone – replaced by a look of surprise.

“I would appear that you have been holding back, Sesshomaru.”

“Hn,”

The grin on the demons face suddenly returned.

“And it seems that I may have just found your weakness.”

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes once more, thinking of how he would soon dispose of this demon.
