"Of course I'm pregnant." Hana gasped, as realization suddenly struck her and she remembered that faithful night in the hot spring with Sesshomaru so long ago. She felt the heat rush to her cheeks as she thought of that night.

She walked next to Atsuko - who had insisted on walking her for at least half the distance - with a look of surprise still plastered onto her face. Apparently, the sorceress had a special gift of sensing demonic auras, and the pup growing inside her seemed to be giving off quite a strong aura. Hana wasn't entirely sure what to say or think.

"You should be happy," said the woman, smiling "you've been blessed. From what I can sense your child will be quite a powerful little demon."

Hana blushed, still not used to the sudden talk of "her child."

"I'm sure the father will be very happy. At least I hope he will be," Atsuko continued. As Hana tried her hardest to listen to what the sorceress was saying, she found that her mind was beginning to run wild with questions of all sorts.

What would Sesshomaru's reaction be? And did he even want a child?

Hana immediately shook the questions from her mind.

"You ask too many questions, Hana." She scolded herself.

"Hana-san," Atsuko's voice snapped her out of her trance.

"Forgive me, what were you saying?"

"I said: who is the lucky demon that has mated with such a beautiful young girl?"

Hana's cheeks reddened once more. In her mind, it was the other way around. She was the lucky one. Sesshomaru had once detested the idea of love, but, miraculously he still managed to love her. She had actually managed to soften that cold and indifferent heart of his – even if it was only just a bit.

Did he detest the idea of having children (having an heir there waiting for his death so that they could take his position as Lord of the West whenever he passed) also?

If so, could she manage to change his outlook on that also?

It wasn't often that someone got lucky twice.

He supposed he should have considered himself lucky to have ever stumbled upon Hana in the first place. Who knew what he would have been doing at the moment if he had decided on not saving her life on the night he'd found her on the brink of death. One thing he did know was that he wouldn’t have been able to experience the strange and slightly pleasurable feeling of caring for a woman deeply – the feeling of being in love.

He never wanted to stumble upon such an unsettling scene such as someone whom he cared for being gravely injured ever again- neither with Hana nor with Rin. He would search all of Feudal Japan if he had to in order to discover where Hana had suddenly disappeared to, and apparently Rin felt the same. He glanced across at the little girl who strode happily beside him. She wore a bright smile on her face as she walked gleefully next to her Lord.

She had become somewhat like a daughter to him over the years. And Jaken, (who was trailing closely behind) Sesshomaru supposed, had become somewhat like a faithful pet with which he could never part. These were the people whom he had grown to care for – the people whom he would go to limitless ends to protect. At one point in his life, he would never have even thought of admitting to such an absurd thing, but now he found it to be quite simple and he had those exact people to thank for that.

It wasn’t long before Hana’s scent had suddenly reappeared.

It had taken much less time than he had expected, but that did not matter to him. As his keen nose suddenly picked up on the familiar cherry blossom scent and he began to sense a faint demonic aura, Sesshomaru was only concerned with one thing, and that was the fact that she was near

“I suppose you were indeed right, Rin,” he said to the little girl beside him.

Earlier, Rin had said to him with an optimistic tone of voice, “Don’t worry Milord, I’m sure Hana-chan will be back soon.”
