“Sesshomaru,” said a female dog demon dryly. His only reply was a soft ‘Hn.’
“I’ve come all this way and you won’t even turn to face your mother? Fine then,”
Sesshomaru’s mother averted her gaze from her son’s back to the body of the wolf demon lying at the base of a tree. Bandages covered most of the upper part of the girl’s body.
She placed her hands in the sleeves of her kimono and took a couple steps closer to her son.
“This girl…what does she mean to you?”
I care greatly for her… I may even love her.
Instead of speaking what he had thought to himself, Sesshomaru was silent for a moment.
“That is none of your concern.”
“I see.” A smile played on his mother’s lips. She then closed her eyes, turning away from her son and beginning to walk away.
“Whatever your feelings are for this girl, it doesn’t matter if she’s dead,” He glared at her comment through the corner of his eye. He had finally given in to, and had gotten used to the way Hana made him feel – to his love for her –, but his mother’s dry and sarcastic humor was one thing he would never get used to.
He looked down at her as she peacefully lay there - unconscious, but not dead.
“So, once again my son feels what it is like to fear losing someone close to him. If only your father could see how much you’ve changed.” She paused. “Not only does it seem that you may actually care for this girl greatly, but you’ve sent the human child and the little yokai away so that they are not put in harm’s way – how unlike you.”
His mother often enjoyed pointing out things like that: how ever since he’d found companions, how much he’d changed from the cold and heartless demon he once was. He’d found it best to simply not reply to most of her comments.
“Since it appears that you don’t wish to speak to me, I shall leave you and the dying girl alone. So long, Sesshomaru,”
In a matter of seconds, she’d taken on her dog form, leaping into the air a disappearing behind a group of thick clouds.

Opening her eyes slightly and looking up at the morning sky, she had, at first, thought that she was dead.
Maybe, she thought to herself, she was in the afterlife.
When Hana had finally come to, she’d found Sesshomaru standing a couple feet away from her, looking up at the clouds in the sky.
Slowly, she sat up, eventually getting to her feet although stumbling a bit at first; standing felt somewhat foreign to her, as if she’d been unconscious for days. Her muscles ached – especially her shoulder – though not as much as she remembered them aching before she’d passed out. She managed to approach Sesshomaru, but soon found that her strength hadn’t returned as yet. Still weak, she began falling, her eyes beginning to close. Luckily for Hana, Sesshomaru had turned around just in time to catch her.
As he held her by both her upper arms, she looked up into his eyes. Something about the way he looked down at her made it appear as if he was surprised to see her awake.
“Um,” She said nervously, not sure what to say. It seemed that Sesshomaru’s holding her still had that effect on her. The look in his eyes disappeared.
“I suggest you sit down if you do not wish for your wounds to reopen.”
Hana blinked. Wondering what he was talking about, she looked down at herself. Most of her upper body was covered in bandages and her kimono was rolled down to her waist.
