What if Halt's sarcastic and gruff mannerisms are just a mask as to what he really feels? I mean for crying out loud, he thinks of Will as a son! As for Horace, I mean, think about how Halt told him in Kings Of Clonmel that the girls at the harbor front were Couriers but that was just a lie since Horace was only 16 at the time.
I just love Halt. If you under the surface he's really just a big, soft teddy bear who can kill you.
