Sam walked into the door of the dance studio where Andrea had her dance class. He'd gotten there a bit early but decided to go in and watch the last ten minutes or so. Andrea had her mother's passion for dance. Jess had been the best dancer at her studio, but that had been years ago. Now it was Andrea's turn. The nine year old was already advanced for her age and it came as no surprise to Sam. It had been hard to allow Andrea to take dance lesson's the first time she mentioned it. Her mother had died when Andrea was only three, the young girl had watched videos of her mother's recital's and decided she wanted to try, that had been two years ago now. Sam had his brother Dean take her to her lesson's in the beginning. It was too hard. But when his little girl was due to dance in her first recital, he forced himself to push down all the pain and memories and watch her dance. After that, it got easier. Dean still took her to most of her lessons, but Sam would go with them some times. Finally he was able to take Andrea on his own and now he enjoyed taking her to the studio. He'd even stop and watch the other dancers for a moment on his way out after dropping her off sometimes.
Today as he walked down the familiar window lined hallway he paused when he saw one of the familiar instructors Gabriel, if he remembered correctly. He'd seen him dance on occasion. He was one of the best instructors, according to some of the parents. The shorter guy was actually due to be Andrea's next instructor, once she graduated from her current class.
Sam watched as Gabriel spun in place as if he were weightless. The way his legs braced him as he landed from a graceful leap. Sam felt his mouth drop slightly.
The man danced effortlessly across the room as if being pulled gently by a ribbon.
It was then Sam noticed the mam had danced to the door peering out and looking at Sam with bright golden eyes.
"Care to join me?" Gabriel asked with a smirk.
Sam's eyes widened, "Oh, no, I'm just..." Sam gestured over his shoulder where Andrea's class was across the hall.
"I could use a second person, just for a minute?" Gabriel asked hopefully.
Sam bit his bottom lip, he'd not danced with someone since Jess. She'd often try to teach him a move or two so he could help her practice.
"Please?" Gabriel held his hand out, his chest heaving under his tank top.
"Okay," Sam found himself taking Gabriel's hand. He didn't know why he agreed, but it was too late to back out now.
Gabriel led him into the room. He didn't release Sam's hand as he danced gracefully around him.
"Do you know anything about dance?" Gabriel asked.
"A bit," Sam nodded.
"You seem...strong..." Gabriel grinned, his eyes sliding over Sam, "Think you could catch me?"
Sam only nodded.
Gabriel released Sam's hand and danced away from him. Suddenly he stopped before taking a running leap.
Sam had caught Jess like this a dozen times so he knew the exact spot to place his hands.
When Gabriel reached him, Sam wrapped one arm around the man's waist and his other arm hooked under his thigh, lifting him slightly and spinning carefully in place before lowering Gabriel back to his feet.
Gabriel spun in place so he was face to face with Sam, "I've never had someone be able to do that before," Gabriel's eyes shone like the sun and his lips curled into a bright smile.
"You're very good," Sam said unable to think of anything else to say.
"Could we do another?" Gabriel asked, his tone hopeful.
Sam only gave a small nod.
Gabriel backed up but only a few spaces.
"Straight up," Gabriel smiled before leaping at Sam.
Sam caught him by the waist lifting him up slightly before letting him slide back down against Sam's chest. Sam's arms snaking their way around the shorter man.
Suddenly there was a clapping sound coming from the doorway.
Sam and Gabriel looked over to see Andrea smiling widely at the pair.
"Mr. Gabe that was amazing. Hi, daddy," Andrea said walking towards them.
Sam cleared his throat slightly, "Finished with class?" Sam asked, he could feel his cheeks heat up.
"Yeah," Andrea nodded, but hadn't stopped smiling at the two men.
"Great, uncle Dean is meeting us for dinner, so we should get going," Sam stepped by Gabriel only to be stopped by the shorter man.
"Thank you, I haven't danced with someone like that since..." Gabriel's bright eyes seemed to dull as his words faded, "It's been a long time," Gabriel finished with a forced smile.
"I know the feeling," Sam responded quietly.
"Your daughter is very talented, and I look forward to having her in my class," Gabriel smiled at Andrea.
"Me too," Sam gave a shy smile as he made his way to Andrea.
She slipped her hand in his as they walked away.
"Does he dance as good as mommy did?" Andrea asked tugging gently at Sam's hand.
Sam looked back at the man that had started dancing again, "Yeah, I think does."
