The bunker was quiet which meant Dean and Cas must have been out, again. Sam tried not to feel bitter about it, but he couldn't help it. He knew he should be glad that he didn't have to spend the morning avoiding Cas. It was getting harder to do, especially when Cas sought him out, asking to watch a movie with him, or wanting to show him something he'd found in one of the men of letters books he'd been reading.
Sam had always enjoyed spending time with angel, but Sam wasn't stupid, he knew that Cas had feelings for Dean. Hell he'd all but said it once.
'Dean and I do share a more profound bond' He'd said. Granted that had been almost four years ago now, but he knew the angel's feelings for his brother hadn't changed. And he wasn't about to deny his brother anything. Dean had given up enough of his life so Sam could be happy, he wasn't going to take Cas too, even though he wasn't really sure Dean felt the same way Cas did. Sam didn't bring it up though. He didn't have the guts. He was just thankful they weren't dating, yet. He'd be lying if he said he didn't dread the day that Dean and Cas got together. It would devastate him.
Sam had just sat down with his smoothie when the bunker doors opened to Dean and Cas arguing.
"You're wrong Cas, Curly was the funniest stooge," Dean said following the angel down the stairs.
"I disagree, I found him too obvious," Cas shook his head.
"You sound like Sam," Dean scoffed.
"Sam has good taste, so I'll take that as a compliment," Cas smiled proudly.
Sam felt a smile tug at his lips.
"Damn it, Sammy, he's my best friend, get your own, and stop corrupting mine," Dean swore.
Sam swallowed thickly as he forced a smile. Guilt crept up his spine. He hated to know what Dean would say about his feelings for his best friend.
"Did you sleep well Sam?" Cas asked sincerely putting a hand on the hunter's shoulder.
Sam smiled up at Cas, "Yeah, Cas, thanks." Sam loved how caring Cas was.
"You didn't ask me how I slept," Dean huffed jealously.
Cas rolled his eyes, "I know how you slept, Dean."
Sam fought the jealousy that pricked his skin. He didn't even want to know how Cas knew how Dean slept.
"It'd still be nice if you asked," Dean grumbled.
"Dean, are you really going to pout because I asked your brother a question?" Cas huffed.
Sam took that as his cue. Cas and Dean bickered like this often and it made Sam sick. He hated third wheeling their flirting. He stood grabbing his smoothie and headed for his room.
"Where are you going?" Dean asked mid argument.
"I have a few things to finish up in my room," Sam lied.
"Like what?" Dean frowned.
"I'm organizing my closet," Sam lied again. It was the first thing that popped into his head.
"Weirdo," Dean shook his head before turning his attention back to Cas, who had his head cocked in the way Sam loved. It was endearing.
He was glad that Dean didn't press. He needed to get away from Cas. The more distance he put between him and the angel, the better.
-
Sam heard the tv in the back room playing what sounded like the three stooges. Dean must have been trying to prove his point to Cas.
