Theo slid his arm around Liam's shoulder as he talked. It was a friendly gesture that wouldn't raise any brows, but for Theo it was more than that, it was his way of coping with the fact that Liam wasn't his. He fought to keep from wrinkling his nose as the scent of Hayden hit him. Liam had just been with her, he could tell.
"So then Hayden decided to throw a party tomorrow night, you guys in?" Liam asked glancing around at his friends.
"Sure," Scott nodded.
"Someone needs to keep you two in line," Stiles chuckled.
"I go where Scott goes," Isaac shrugged.
"Theo?" Liam asked turning to the guy next to him.
"Uhhh, I think I'm gonna skip it, I have to pass this chemistry test Monday," Theo shook his head. He tried to avoid being around Liam when he was with Hayden. It hurt too much.
"Aww, come on, it'll be fun, she's getting Lydia to help her, and we all know Lydia throws the best parties," Liam nudged Theo gently in the ribs.
"Seriously I have to study," Theo knew he would just be miserable.
"What if I help you study tonight, would you come then?" Liam asked hopefully.
"Why do you want me to go so bad?" Theo frowned.
"Cause you're one of my best friends," Liam smiled.
Theo's heart melted at the same time his chest tightened. He loved that he and Liam were so close, but he also hated that he was only Liam's friend. He wanted more, so much more.
"Please?" Liam begged, giving his best puppy dog eyes.
Theo held back a growl. He hated when Liam used his puppy dog eyes on him, it made him want to agree to anything.
"Okay," Theo sighed.
"Yes," Liam pumped his fist a bit.
"I'll meet you after school at your house?" Liam asked.
"Sure," Theo nodded.
"Great, see you then."
Theo watched as Liam headed off to his next class. At least he'd get to spend the evening with Liam alone.
-
Theo fought to concentrate on his homework as Liam read off one of the formulas, but Theo's eyes kept falling to Liam's mouth. He imagined what it would be like to kiss him.
"Are you even paying attention?" Liam's voice interrupted Theo's thoughts.
"I'm sorry, I'm just really tired," Theo lied.
Liam, thankfully, didn't notice the lie.
"You're not gonna space out and then claim you didn't study enough and back out of the party tomorrow," Liam whined pushing Theo gently. The two were currently laying on their stomach's side by side on Theo's bed.
"Hey," Theo pushed back.
Liam gave another push, attempting to push Theo off the bed, but Theo grabbed Liam's arm pulling him down with him.
Theo landed on his back with Liam on top of him.
"Oof," Liam grunted with a laugh.
Theo's breath caught. He'd imagined Liam on top of him like this more times than he cared to admit.
"Sorry," Liam smiled down at Theo.
Theo swallowed thickly, "You're heavier than you look," Theo said forcing his tone to remain even. He had to seem unfazed.
Liam laughed as he carefully untangled their legs.
Without thinking Theo flipped them so he was now on top of Liam.
Liam squeaked in surprised.
Theo's eyes fell to Liam's lips. He wanted to kiss the brunette so badly. Liam seemed to know what Theo was thinking because his heart rate jumped, and his eyes widened slightly.
"I win," Theo smirked before quickly lifting off of Liam.
Liam laughed a breathy laugh not moving to get up. Theo assumed it was a relieved laugh and somehow that hurt more than he wanted to admit.
"You should head home, I can finish my homework," Theo suddenly wanted to be alone.
"You're not backing out of the party are you?" Liam asked, lifting up onto his elbows.
"I'll be there," Theo promised.
-
Theo showed up half an hour late, but he showed up. He'd pointedly ignored Liam's dozen calls. After last night, he wanted nothing less than to be here. He pushed through the crowd towards the back porch when he heard Liam's voice.
"Theo, there you are, I've been calling you," Liam said pulling Theo out of the crowd to the edge of the room.
"Yeah, sorry, got held up," Theo lied. Truth was he'd been putting off coming as long as he possibly could.
"You alright?" Liam asked sensing Theo's mood was off.
"Yeah, just a long day," Theo lied again.
Liam frowned, he must have caught the lie that time.
"You sure?" Liam pressed. He definitely caught the lie.
"Yeah. Where's everyone else?" Theo asked changing the subject.
"In the kitchen, you want a drink? It's the good stuff," Liam nodded towards the kitchen.
"I'm good, thanks," Theo knew drinking around Liam would be a bad idea. He would probably do something he regretted.
This seemed to catch Liam's attention. "Dude, what's going on with you?"
"Nothing," Theo answered dismissively, stepping past his friend. He really needed to get over Liam.
Theo continued to dodge Liam's prying questions while doing his best to ignore the way Hayden hung all over him.
After almost two hours, Theo couldn't take anymore, Liam was currently shoving his tongue down Hayden's throat and Theo was losing his restraint.
He slipped through the crowd without any of the pack noticing. He got half way home when he got a text form Liam asking him where he went.
Theo send one back saying he didn't feel well. He ignored the texts following that. He was too frustrated, and he was sure Liam was going to figure out how he felt if he didn't get his shit together. Problem was, he didn't know how.
