(Charlotte’s POV)
So a week had passed since we moved away and I had to leave my dad and Max. Nothing had really happened.
Uncle Martin was introducing me to his friend, Steve, who he said was looking for a new secretary. He owned a publicity company called ‘Grimshaw Publicity’ , which works with a magazine company, called ‘Download Magazine’.
When I was choosing what to wear that morning, I tried to look mature and hardworking but not too keen, so I chose to wear my jeans with a smart top and my cardi.
We were meeting Steve at the company meal at a restaurant called Nando’s. Apparently it’s their favourite restaurant so I agreed to go.
When we arrived at Nando’s, I could see a huge group of people, mainly men. I think I expected more women to work in a magazine company.
We walked in and Steve stood up to greet us. We sat at the end of the table with him.
There was general chatter among the table until Steve turned the attention to me. ‘So Charlotte, what brings you to Nottingham?’ he asked.
‘Well just family really.’ I answered. I didn’t like talking about my mum and dad and Uncle Martin knew this.
‘As Martin has probably already told you, I’m looking for a new secretary. Do you think you can take it on?’
I figured this was coming. ‘Yeah I think I can. My friends always tell me I’m organised and hard working. I’m fairly good with computers as well.’
‘Well it all sounds promising. How about starting in a week’s time?’
He offered me the job! I barely said anything. He didn’t ask about qualifications and stuff like that. ‘Yeah that’d be great.’ I said with a smile.
A round of applause erupted from the table, led by a geeky boy in the corner, with curly, bouncy hair. He had a wonky smile that was adorable.
‘Brilliant!’ Steve said.

A short while later, I excused myself and went to the bathroom.
When I came out, I bumped into the guy to started the round of applause earlier.
‘Oh sorry’ he said. ‘Wasn’t concentrating.’
‘It’s okay’ I said to him.
‘Oh hey. You’re Charlotte, right? Steve’s new secretary?’
‘Yeah that’s right.’
‘I’m Jay. I work at Download Magazine. Might be seeing more of you.’
