(Charlotte’s POV)

After we’d had our food and talked for, what felt like, ages, we left Pizza Hut.

‘Tonight has been amazing, Max. Thank you for everything.’

‘It’s not over yet. Come on, limo’s round the corner.’

By this time I was starting to get tired. When we got into the limo, I rested my head on Max’s shoulder. I was tired but I was determined not to fall asleep.

The limo seemed to be heading in the direction of home and sure enough we arrived outside our houses. We climbed out and I stood by the wall while Max went to talk to the driver.

When he came back, he grabbed my hand and said, ‘We’ve got one more stop.’

He took me up the path leading to his house. I could see a warm glow in the front room, through the window. We walked through the front door then I saw the lounge. It was filled with lit candles. He knew I loved candles. They made me feel calm and relaxed.

(Max’s POV)

Charlotte sat down on the sofa. I could tell she was happy. Just something about get let me know she was happy.

I went to the TV and put her favourite film on. P.S I Love You.

I turned around and she smiled. I sat next to her on the sofa and again she rested her head on my shoulder. She did this whenever she was tired, so I grabbed the blanket from the back of the sofa and laid it over us both.

After a while, Charl had drifted off to sleep. That night was exactly how I wanted it to be. I didn’t want either of us getting upset because she was leaving. I just want to enjoy what proper time I had left with her. Thinking about this made me fall asleep too.

(Charlotte’s POV)

The sun was beaming through the window onto my face. I woke up, forgetting I was at Max’s. Then memories of what happened last night came rushing back. I grinned to myself, then realised Max was gone.

He returned after a minute or two with two mugs in his hand. ‘Here.’ He handed me one and sat down next to me.

‘Thank you for last night.’ I said. ‘Thank you for everything you’ve ever done for me. For being there when I need you. For being an amazing friend and for not being angry because I’m leaving.’

‘I could never be angry at you Charl.’ he replied.

I gave a smile but realised what time it was. It was half 1 and we were moving the next day. ‘Max! Look at the time! I need to go and help mum.’ I rushed to the front door. I turned round and said to him ‘Thank you.’

He came up to me and gave me the biggest hug he’d ever given me.

‘I’ll come see you off tomorrow, yeah?’ he said.

‘Yeah.’ and I walked out.
