(Jay’s POV)

I was meeting Charlotte today. She text me a couple of days after she was back from America. We were meeting at the coffee shop we went to when I took her out from work, as required by Steve.

I walked in and Julie recognised me. ‘Hiya Jay. You alright dear?’ she asked me.

‘Hi Julie. Yeah I’m good thanks. Are you?’

‘Yes thank you love. You meeting Charlotte? She was in here the other day.’

‘Yeah I am actually.’

‘Lovely girl is our Charley.’

I know, I thought.

‘Anyway, what can I get you?’ she asked me.

‘Just a coffee and a chocolate brownie please.’

‘I’ll bring it over.’ She said with a smile and I walked to a table in the back corner.

As Julie brought everything over, Charlotte walked in. Julie got her her usual and she took the seat opposite me.

‘Hi’ I said to her as she sat down. She had a smile on her face, which made me smile.

‘Hey Jay.’ She replied. ‘Look I need to tell..’

I cut in. ‘No me first. Please.’

‘Okay.’ She said quietly.

‘I meant what I said that night at the club. I know I haven’t known you for that long but I feel like I’ve known you all my life. I care about you Charlotte.’

‘I feel the same.’ She replied. Her voice was still quiet, but I heard her loud and clear.

I stretched my arm over the table and held her hand in mine. I stroked her knuckes with my thumb and kept my eyes on hers.

(Charlotte’s POV)

Julie came over and coughed to get our attention. She put my hot chocolate, and all the trimmings, on the table. Jay and I continued to talk for a couple of hours. A few times I noticed Julie watching us, smiling. I told him about America and he told me about his break.

We decided to leave the café, said our goodbyes to Julie and left. Jay wanted to walk me home and I had no objections. He took my hand and entwined our fingers together. Then he said, ‘What you doing tomorrow night?’

‘Nothing I don’t think. Why?’

‘I wanna take you out. Properly.’ He said with a sense of determination in his voice and his eyes.

‘What? Like a date?’ I replied, with a smile on my face.

‘Yeah. Like a date.’

‘Okay.’ By this point we were outside my home.

‘I’ll pick you up here, 8pm tomorrow night, kay?’

‘Yeah.’

His eyes looked into mine and then down to my lips and back to my eyes. He leaned forward and brushed his lips against mine. I kissed him back for a few seconds. I pulled away.

‘Bye Jay.’ I said and walked into my house.
