(Charlotte’s POV)

The train was pulling into King’s Cross Station. Most of the journey here I had been asleep while leaning on Max. We both had our music playing but I knew that he was humming along to his audition song: ‘Hero’ by Enrique Iglesias.

‘Do you know where we are going?’ I asked Max.

‘Errrmm I think so’. He didn’t sound sure. He started rustling around in his bag for a piece of paper with all the details on it. When he eventually found it, he read out the name of where we were going. ‘Geffen Records’ and continued to point in the direction of where to go. He grabbed my hand and dragged me along.

One the way he tried to tell me what was going to happen. ‘So when we get there’ he started ‘you might be directed to the staging area to sit in the audience. That’s why we’re only allowed to bring one person because there’ll be limited places for the audience.’

‘So I won’t get to see you before you audition?’ I asked him.

‘Well you will, but it might be a while before I audition.’

‘Okay then.’ I said with a smile.

Before I knew it, we were there. The building was huge! Certainly big enough for an audition room somewhere. We walked in. I could see Max was trying to act as though he wasn’t nervous, but I knew he would be. We went up to the front desk and explained why we were there. ‘Okay, what’s your name please?’ the receptionist said to Max.

‘Max George’ he replied.

‘And are you going to be in the audience?’ she said to me. I wasn’t paying attention so Max had to nudge me.

‘Oh right. Yes. Charlotte Fawcett.’ I said.

‘Okay, well Max, if you would like to follow the signs to the stage, and Charlotte, if you would follow me, I’ll show you to the audience’s seats.’

I gave Max a quick hug and whispered in his ear ‘Good luck. Not that you’ll need it. You’ll be great’. Then I was led away by the receptionist.

(Max’s POV)

I followed the signs, but I knew where I was going. What Charlotte didn’t know was that this wasn’t my first audition, it was hopefully my last. I’d been going through this audition process now for around 6 months. This was the final stage to find out whether or not we were going to make it into the band.

I walked through the wooden doors, and immediately I heard a Bolton voice shout from across the room. That was Tom Parker. He was at my first audition and has been at each one since to offer support and I hoped I did the same for him. ‘Hey!’ he shouted.

‘Hey!’ I shouted back and walked over to him.

‘Nervous?’ he asked me.

‘Yeah course I am! I’ve got my best friend sat in the audience. She doesn’t exactly know that this is the final audition. I haven’t told her about any of the others.’ I explained.

‘No way! How’s she gonna react when you tell her?!’ He was always very loud when he spoke, was Tom.

‘I don’t know. Maybe if I get in she’ll be happy for me.’

‘Mate, you’re definitely in!’

‘Oh thanks mate’ I said with a smile.

All the auditionees turned around to face Jayne Collins. She was organising the auditions for Geffen Records. ‘Right guys,’ she shouted. ‘This is it. The final audition. I want you to know that even if you don’t get into the band, you have all done really well to get this far.’ She started a round of applause. ‘So good luck to everyone and I’ll see you on stage.’

I turned to look at Tom and just smiled. Jayne was right. This is it.
