(Jay’s POV)
It was approaching 8pm the next day and I was on my way to meet Charlotte at her house. I’d spent all day planning this date. I wanted to make it perfect for her, because she is perfect. Her smile, her eyes, her wavy hair, her figure, her personality, her laugh, everything about her is perfect. I have never felt like this about anyone before. This was special. I just hoped she felt the same.
I arrived outside her house a bit early, so I tried to be romantic, and throw pebbles at her window to catch her attention. I threw a couple and I could her some loud talk come from inside the house. A light turned on at the window and a woman appeared. ‘If you’re looking for Charlotte she’s the next window along’ the woman said with a smile. I started blushing and looked to the next window where Charlotte was looking down. She was giggling to herself.
‘That’s my mum’s window Jay’ she said to me. Her mum was still at the window so I apologised. When I looked back, Charlotte had disappeared. Two minutes later the front door opened to reveal Charlotte.
She was wearing a midnight blue dress, with a short black cardigan and pearly white pumps.
‘Hey’ she said smiling.
‘You look amazing’ was all I managed to say.
‘Thank you. It’s not too much is it?’ she sounded worried. Then I realised I hadn’t told her what we were doing and I know what girls are like with planning their outfits to suit what they’re doing.
‘No course not’ I said smiling at her. ‘Come on’ and I held my arm out for her.
(Charlotte’s POV)
We were walking along the street in silence. But it wasn’t a bad silence. It was good. We were just enjoying the company of each other. It was comfortable silence.
Jay led me into a block of official-looking flats, and we went in the elevator. He clicked the button to go the top floor. I was so confused. What could we be doing?
We got to the top, after what felt like forever in the elevator, and he led me through a fire exit to a flight of stairs. There was a door at the top of the stairs, but as I went to open it, Jay covered my eyes with his hands. ‘Jay!’ I shouted in shock.
‘Sshh. I want it to be a surprise.’ He whispered into my ear. His breath against my neck gave me goosebumps.
I heard the door unlatch and he opened it. He pushed my through and I kept walking to the unknown. Surely he can’t be pushing me off the edge, but who knows. No Charlotte. How ridiculous is that?!
Then he pulled me to a halt. ‘Ready?’ he whispered into my ear.
‘Jay what the hell are you doing with…’ Before I could finish he pulled his hands away from my eyes to reveal to roof, of the flats, lit by hundreds of fairy lights. On the floor there was a picnic blanket, covered in cushions, with a small hamper basket. Beside the basket was a bucket with Champagne and ice. I stood in silence and Jay started to lead me over to the blanket.
