(Max’s POV)
It was Tom’s turn to audition first. We weren’t allowed to stand at the sides of the stage like you see on the Talent Shows on telly. We had to wait behind stage in the holding room. I was going over my song over and over in my head, listening to it on my iPod. It felt like the right song to sing for the audition. I don’t know why. It just felt right.
After about 10 minutes, Tom reappeared. ‘How’d it go?’ I asked him.
‘Oh mate.. I’ve messed it up. Big time!’ he replied.
‘What happened?’
‘My mind just went blank. I couldn’t think of the lyrics. I froze on stage. Definitely not in now. Might as well just go home. Forget it all happened. Why did I have to mess it up today?!’
Tom was in bits. ‘Don’t worry about it mate. They know what you’ve been like in the last auditions. They’ll give you a chance. Just you wait.’ I wanted to support him the best I could. He had been there for me all the way through the auditions and I wanted to do the same for him.
‘You think?’ he replied. And I replied with a nod and a smile of encouragement. ‘Thanks mate’ he said.
A few minutes later and it was my turn..
(Charlotte’s POV)
I’d been sat in the audience, watching the auditions for a while now. All the guys performing were really good. I know Max can match it. There’d been a few slip ups though. Like just before there was a guy from Bolton, Tom I think his name was, who forgot his lyrics. I felt so sorry for him. He must be soo nervous.
I waited a few minutes and a familiar face came on the stage.
‘So Jay, are you ready?’ the woman on the panel asked. I think that was Jayne. She was holding the auditions. But more to the point, what was Jay doing here?
‘Yes I am.’ He replied to her. He never told me he sings, let alone that he was auditioning for a boy band. Then he started singing. His voice was beautiful. He was singing ‘Delicate’ by Damien Rice. I was in shock. It just wasn’t what I expected. I don’t know what I expected to be honest.
I just sat listening to Jay. I was memorised. I started getting butterflies in my stomach. It was beautiful. But everything comes to an end.
‘Okay thank you Jay. We’ll see you at the end of the day.’ Jayne said to him.
‘Thank you’ he replied and left the stage to the left.
I just sat there thinking about what had just happened. I didn’t really believe it. I was so deep in thought that I almost missed Max’s audition.
He came on the stage and the same thing happened, like Jay’s. Jayne asked him if he was ready and he started to sing. He was amazing. I knew he would be. I felt so proud at that moment.
I couldn’t compare him and Jay though. They were both good in different ways. Their voices were different, but in good ways.
When Max left the stage, my phone vibrated in my pocket. It was a text from him. ‘Meet me in the lobby xxx’ was all it said.
