Kōushi pulled up in his car, slamming the door behind him as he jogged over to me. I saw him collapse beside me, and I laid my head down on his lap, staring outwards at the parking lot. I was still sobbing, and my entire body shook as I laid there. He had a backpack over his shoulders, which he flung beside him and opened, taking out a travel cup, which smelt oddly like jasmine tea, and a blanket.
He laid the blanket over me and stroked my (h/c) softly in his hand. "Shhh, shhh Y/N... You're okay. Deep breaths." I took a few slow, shaky breaths. I felt my body relax into the blanket.
"Are you ready to tell me what happened?"
The very words made me want to sob yet again, and it took every nerve in my body not to do so. "Not really." I whispered, sitting up straight. "Wait- what's that?" I picked the travel cup up, waving it under my nose. He laughed, snatching it from me and unlocking the travel-safe seal. "It's my mom's signature herbal tea. Jasmine and Camomile. It's supposed to be super calming or something. Try it." He handed it to me yet again. I cautiously sipped the tea. "Oh my gosh, This is so good!" I gulped down another half of it. He laughed, snatching it out of my grasp. "Go easy! You're going to burn your tongue."
I watched him click the safety back on and tuck the travel mug back into his backpack. I sighed and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me in.
I eventually brought myself to explain exactly what had happened. The way Noya's eyes darkened, and the grip he had on me. Every few sentences I took a break to breathe. Kōushi would kiss my forehead and let me calm down. At the end of my little speech he simply nodded, and a few seconds of complete silence passed.
"C'mere." He smiled, shuffling to his feet. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up with him. Once I stood up, he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me in. I rested my head on his chest and felt a tear slide down my left cheek. "You're safe now, I've got you. He wasn't thinking straight. He's just stressed with everything that happened." He cooed, kissing my hair. "I don't wanna go back in there." I whispered, clinging to him. "I can't." He silently separated the embrace and turned to where the blanket was. He picked it up and wrapped it around my shoulders before then flinging his backpack over his back again. "You don't need to." He smiled, taking my hand in his and leading me to the car. "Where are we going?" I asked, buckling the seatbelt. Kōushi chuckled, starting the engine. "Somewhere special."
Eventually, the car had slowly began to stop. I looked outside the window, only to be greeted with a regular old woods on the edge of town. "What are we doing here?" I asked, unbuckling my seatbelt. He smiled, unbuckling his own and stepping out of the car. He walked over to my side of the car with a gentle grin, opening my door for me. He took my hand in his and closed my door. "Just trust me."
With that I felt myself being lifted up in his arms. I yelped in surprise, as I realized I was being held bridal-style by this amazingly adorable, tall ass guy. "Uh, Wha—"
"Shh! Close your eyes or it'll ruin the surprise." He giggled, beginning to walk into the forest, seemingly to carry me like a feather. My mind drifted back to the very first time I had met him. Mr. Faye had asked him to help me bring my books to my locker, and he lifted the entire pile like it was nothing.
I sighed, finally giving in and squeezing my eyes shut. "So are you bringing me out to kill me or what?" I groaned. "At least do it quickly. I have places to be. Like, hell." He laughed and continued to walk further into the forest. I could hear the crunch of fallen leaves under his feet, and the soft late-winter wind blowing past my ears.
"We're here. Keep your eyes shut, I'll let you down." He sat me down on what felt like a log or something. "I need you to be super quiet, you might scare them, more than they'll scare you. Now open."
I slowly lifted my eyelids to be greeted with one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It was a lake, filled with crystal clear water, which was illuminated by the now rising moon. I held my breath in shock as a small doe staggered towards the lake. It began to drink from the lake, the now-rippled water reflecting it's crimson/brown body. It lifted its head at me and I felt my body tense. It slowly walked over to me, sniffing my hand with its small pink nose. I didn't dare move. It's ears perked at the sight of Kōushi. It bounded over to him happily, and he scratched between its ears.
"This is Shimi. I raised her as a baby, her mother was killed by hunters a few years back, so I took her in. I had to release her back here when she got too big, but the old girl still remembers me." His eyes gleamed with pride. That doe, no this place, obviously means so much to him. "She's beautiful...Wait- you said they, earlier, when you warned me." I brought myself to reach over and stroke Shimi. She happily accepted my touch, seeing that I was lucky enough to be brought here, it must of been obvious Kōushi trusts me. Kōushi's hand reached down to the doe's stomach, patting it gently. "Shimi is expecting a fawn, in early spring." He lifted his hand again, this time reaching it around my shoulder. "K-Kōushi... I-" silent tears fell down the side of my cheeks as a choked on my words. "Thank you, so much." I lifted my hand to his cheek, brushing it softly with my thumb. I greeted his lips with a passionate kiss. He wrapped his arms around me and held me. Words will never be able to explain the way the moment felt. Like two sparks had connected and fireworks had flared. I broke the kiss gently, embracing him in a hug. He placed his chin on my head, stroking my hair with his dominant hand.
"I'll never let anyone hurt you, Y/N. You're safe with me. I promise."
