At a US training camp.

Steve and Magdalen are standing in a line with the others.
"Recruits, attention! Gentleman, I'm Agent Carter and this is Dr Amelia Erskine. We supervise all operations for this division." Peggy says.
"What's with the accent, Queen Victoria? Thought I was signing up for the U.S army." A soldier says.
"Hey, Respect your superiors," Amelia says sternly.

"Oh, are we working with Nazis now?" The soldier says smirking.
"What's your name, soldier?" Peggy asks.
"Gilmore Hodge, your majesty." Hodge sasses.
"Step forward, Hodge," Amelia says as she is now standing in front of him.
"Put your right foot forward." Amelia orders.
"Mmm... Are we gonna wrestle? Cause I got a few moves I know you'll like." Hodge says smirking. Suddenly Amelia punches him hard in the face, Making him fall to the ground.

An army car drives up and an older man gets out of the car.
"Dr Erskine, Agent Carter." The man says
"Colonel Phillips" Peggy and Amelia say at the same time, turning around to face Colonel Phillips.
"I see you're breaking in the candidates. That's good!" Phillips says Then turns to Hodge.
" Get your ass up out of that dirt and stand in that line at attention till somebody comes tells you what to do," Phillips orders harshly.
"Yes, sir," Hodge says getting up off the ground.
"General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men..." Phillips starts to explain before stopping to look at Steve and Magdalen Before looking away.

"And because they're gonna get better. Much better. The Strategic Scientific Reserve is an Allied effort made up of the best minds in the free world. Our goal is to create the best army in history. But every army starts with one man. At the end of this week, we will choose two people. They will be the first in a new breed of super-soldiers." Phillips continues talking.

Later.

Steve, Magdalen, and the other candidates are crawling through the mud while holding guns. When one of the candidates kicks the wood supports and makes the barbed wire fall on Steve.

"Rogers! Get that rifle out of the mud!" Sergeant Duffy yells.

Timeskip.

Steve, Magdalen and some other trainees are running (Steve falling behind) up to a waiting Peggy and Amelia and a flagpole.

"Pick up the pace ladies! Let's go! Double time! Come on! Faster! Faster! Move! Move!" Duffy yells as they arrive at the flagpole.
"Squad, halt! That flag means we're only at halfway point. The first person to bring it to me gets a ride back with Dr.Erskine and Agent Carter. Move! Move!" Duffy explains. As they all try to claim the pole to no avail.
"Come on! Get up there!" The soldiers yell at one another.
"If that's all you got, this army's in trouble! Get up there, Hodge! Come on! Get up there! Nobody's got that flag in 17 years! Now fall back into line! Come on, fall in! Let's go! Get back into formation!" Duffy orders. Steve and Magdalen walk up to the pole and look at each other.
"Rogers! I said fall in!" Duffy yells. Steve pulls a pin out and Magdalen pulls another causing it to fall over.

Steve walks over and unties the flag from the pole, and hands it to sergeant Duffy.
"Thank you, sir," Steve says before he and Magdalen climb into the car.
"Smart move," Amelia remarks smirking before they drove away.

Timeskip (again)

The soldiers are doing push-ups

"Faster! Come on. My grandmother has more life in her, God rest her soul. Move it!" Peggy orders. Phillips is walking with Abraham and Amelia to where Peggy is.
"You're both not really thinking about it about picking the Rogers, are you?" Phillips asks sceptically.
"We are more than just thinking about it. They are a clear choice." Abraham informs.
"When you brought a ninety pounds asthmatic and short little girl onto my army base, I let it slide. I thought, what the hell? Maybe they'll be useful to you, like gerbils. I never thought you'd pick them." Philips says referring to Steve and Magdalen. Philips, Abraham and Amelia arrive.

"Up," Peggy commands.
"You stick a needle in those kids arms it will go right through them." Philips scoffs while watching Steve struggle whilst training with Magdalen and the other recruits.
"Come on!" Peggy shouts.
"Look at that. He's making me cry" Phillips says.
"We are looking for qualities beyond the physical," Amelia informs.
"Do you how long it took to set up this project?" Philips asks annoyed.

"Yeah, I know," Abraham says
"All the grovelling I had to do in front of Senator What's-His-Name's committees?" Phillips counters.
"Brandt. Yes, we know. We are well aware of your efforts." Amelia says
"Then throw me a bone. Hodge passed every test we gave him. He's big, he's fast, he obeys orders. He's a soldier." Philips informs.
"He's a bully." Abraham states.

"You don't win wars with niceness, Doctors," Phillips says while he grabs two hand grenades. "You win a war with guts." He says as he throws the grenades where the recruits are.
"Grenade!" Phillips yells. All the soldiers move away quickly, but Steve and Magdalen jump on top of the grenades covering them with their body's.
"Get away! Get back!" Steve and Magdalen shout and wait for the grenades to go off.
"their dummy grenades. All clear. Back in formation." An office says while Steve and Magdalen look over at Amelia.
"Is this a test?" Steve asks confused. Amelia and Abraham look at Phillips as to confirm their point about choosing Steve and Magdalen.
"They're still skinny," Phillips says frustratedly.
