Chapter 9

At HYDRA HQ.

Three nazis and Schmidt are talking as they are walking to Schmidt's lab.

" The Führer is not accustomed to being ignored, Herr Schmidt. He funds your research because you promised him weapons." Hutter (one of the Nazis) reminds Schmidt.
"You serve at his pleasure. he gave you this facility as a reward for your injuries." Schneider (another Nazi) tells Schmidt
"Reward? Call it what it is. Exile. I no longer reflect his image of Aryan perfection." Schmidt says.
"You think this is about appearances? Your Hydra division has failed to deliver so much as a rifle in over a year. And we had learned through local intelligence youhad mounted a full-sclae incursion into Norway." Roeder (The last of the three Nazis) states.

"The Führer feels... How does he put it? "The Red Skull has been indulged long enough!"" Schneider resists.
"Gentlemen, you have come to see the results of our work. Let me show you." Schmidt tells them as they enter the lab.
"Hitler speaks of a thousand year Reich, but he cannot feed his army for a month. His troops spill their blood across every field in Europe. But still he is no closer to achieving his goals." Schmidt explains.

"And I suppose you still aim to end this war through magic?" Roeder asks.
"Science. But I understand your confusion. Great power has always baffled primitive men. Hydra is assembling an arsenal to destroy my enemies in one stroke. Where ever they are, regardless of how many forces they possess. All in a matter of hours." Schmidt explains.
"Your enemies?" Roeder asks confused.

"My weapons contain enough destructive power to decimate every hostile capital on earth. Quite simply, gentlemen, I have harnessed the power of the Gods." Schmidt tells them.
"Thank you, Schmidt." Schneider thanks.
"For what?" Schmidt asks confused.
"For making it clear obviously how mad you are." Schneider explains. Hutter walks over to a map showing Schmidt's targets.
"Berlin is on this map!" Hutter exclaims.
"So it is" Schmidt says uncaringly.

"You will be punished for your insolence! You will be brought before the Führer himself!" Hutter says stepping toward Schmidt. Schmidt turns on his new Tesseract-powered canon. He points it at Hutter then fires and he screams in pain before disappearing.
The other two men start to run out of the room but the door is locked Schmidt turns it to them and pulls the trigger again they scream in pain as they disappear too.

At the SSR compound.

"Think you got enough?" Magdalen asks referring to the blood samples.
"Any hope of reproducing a program is locked in your genetic code. But without Dr. Erskine it would take years." Peggy explains.
"Can't you remake it, Amelia?" Steve asks looking at Amelia as she stands next to Peggy, her leg now bandaged.
"No not without my...my father." Amelia says as her voice cracks. Steve and Maggy look at her sadly.
"He deserved more then this." Steve says. Amelia smiles at him.
"If it could only work once, he'd be proud it was you two." Amelia tells them.

Timeskip

At the SSR lab where the HYDRA submarine is.

"Colonel Phillips my committee is demanding answers." Senator Brandt tells Phillips.
"Great. Why don't we start with how a German spy got a ride to my secret installation in your car?" Phillips questions. he walks over to Stark who is working on the submarine.
"What have we got?" Phillips asks.
"Speaking modestly, I'm the best mechanical engineer in this country. But I don't know what's inside this thing or how it works. We're not even close to this technology." Stark answers.

"Then who?" Brandt asks
"Hydra. I'm sure you've been reading our briefings" Phillips answers.
"I'm on a number of committees, Colonel." Brandt says.
"Hydra is the Nazi deep science division. It's led by Johann Schmidt. But he has much bigger ambitions." Amelia tells him.
"Hydra's practically a cult. They worship Schmidt, they think he's invincible." Phillips explains.
"So what are you gonna do about it?" Brandt asks.
"Spoke to the president this morning. As of today the SSR is being retasked."
Phillips informs him.

"Colonel?" Peggy and Amelia question.
"We are taking the fight to Hydra. Pack your bags Agent Carter, Dr. Erskine. You too, Stark. You're flying to London tonight." Phillps tells them.
"Sir, if your going after Schmidt, we want in." Steve says to Phillips.
"You're both an experiment. You're going to Alamogordo." Phillips tells them.
"The serum worked." Magdalen states.
"I asked for an army and all I got was you two. You are not enough." Phillips explains.

"With all due respect to the Colonel, I think we may be missing the point. I've seen you both in action, Steve, Magdalen. More importantly, the country's seen it." Brandt says speaking to the siblings.
"Paper" Brandt orders his aide. The aide shows them the news paper.
"The New York Examiner' Wednesday, June 23, 1943. Headlines: "Nazis in New York - mystery man and woman save a child."" Brandt recites.
"The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the newsstands. You don't take a soldier, a symbol like that, and hide him in a lab. do you both want to serve your country on the most important battlefield of the war?" Brandt asks.

"Sir, that's all we want." Steve answers.
"Then, congratulations. You just got promoted." Brandt congratulates them.
