"Seems like that but I have my eye on someone already." I hummed casually, finishing my food.
"Who?"
"He doesn't go here."
"Bullshit." Harry snapped and I rolled my eyes, enjoying my game with him. "I gotta go." "To?" "I have gym class next." "As do I. In case you didn't realize we have 7 out of 8 classes together. We don't have 3rd period together but I know you have Stats, I have Algebra." Harry snapped as I threw away my trash.
"I have."
"Why don't you just tell me?"
"Harry. I don't understand what you want from me. You have tons of beautiful women around here who want you." "But I don't want them. I want you. Sure, I'll admit I have slept around. I party. I've used girls for sex and have done despicable shit to them but you're different."
"How many times have you used that line to fuck a girl over?" I asked and he sighed heavily, looking down in regret before looking into my eyes. That look. The guilt. The remorse. The despair. That look made my insides turn in my own guilt.
"I've used it on people before but I really do mean it. You're pure. Innocent. You're real, not plastic. You don't try, like other girls. You reject me and tell me what I need to hear. You don't agree with me like most girls do. I love that about you plus, your laugh is contagious."
"Harry." I covered my face and sighed, shaking my head. I cannot fall for it. I can't.
"Leslie, please. Just believe me." He begged and I uncovered my face to see his face twisted in sadness. He was begging.
"I don't know, Harry. I would just like it to be known that the last man who had my heart broke it." "I'm not him. I promise. I would never fucking do that to you. Do you honestly believe I would do that to you? Everybody deserves second chances." He was sitting with his elbows on his thighs, his head held high as he begged.
"Well, that last man was my father, Harry. He set the bar for what men should treat me as. He cheated on my mother 6 years ago with her best friend. Got her pregnant, had a daughter and abandoned me. All my life he never gave a shit about me and he made it known I would never be like Maricela. I thought he was just tired of raising children when he got down to me, instead, he dropped our entire family to raise another little girl. Giving her every goddamn fantasy I wanted with him. I wanted him to look me in the eye sober when he told me he loved me, instead I got him drunk and beating me bloody. So, no, Harry. I don't believe everybody deserves second chances." I said tilting to the side to expose the cigarette burns on the back of my right ear.
"He burned me and broke me long before any boy could." Was all I said before walking into the building and down the stairs to gym. The halls were crowding with people by the time I got to the second floor.
I walked into the girls locker room, changing into my gym clothes, Tights with a black sports bra, black jacket zipped over and my black Nike running shoes were in my hands. I walked into the gym to see Harry staring at me from across the gym, on the bleachers with Zayn and Liam. They were surrounded by girls who would talk to Harry but he would ignore them, resulting in them getting annoyed and touched him. Without looking he would push their hands off him.
"Hey Leslie." A few of the football guys grinned but I just gave them solid stares as I sat on the bleachers and laced up my shoes, throwing my hair into a high ponytail.
"Everybody on the track. 1 mile then freetime. That's 4 laps ladies and gentlemen." Coach Evans yelled after I stretched. I just walked out the double doors onto the track. I didn't feel like talking to anyone as I got to the track. I began to jog along the furthest so I would run more.
"You good Grace?" My brother jogged beside me and I nodded, speeding up so I was now sprinting. He tried to chase after me but I was faster than him and had longer endurance. Nobody knew that but now they did.
My lungs stung as I passed Coach Evans who looked surprised. My breathing was heavy as I went for my second lap. I was dodging people who were walking or jogging. I, with one hand, took off my jacket and threw it at Josh who was panting on the sidelines as I passed him up. I pumped my hands faster and faster, going faster and faster finishing my mile in 3 minutes and 58 seconds. I was out of breath as I passed coach for the last time, stopping.
"Jeez Ibarra. I didn't know you were that fast. That was the fastest mile I've ever seen. You broke the record for the school." She looked impressed and I just walked to the bleachers, drinking from my water as Josh handed me my jacket on the way to the rest of his football practice.
"Tired?" He asked and I nodded, accepting his gatorade. I rolled my eyes as Harry finished 5 minutes later but I was still drenched in sweat and my breathing was still uneven.
"Coach can I be excused to work on my serves?" I yelled out to her, she was talking about me to Coach Johnson who was impressed with my miles.
"Yeah." She said and I grabbed my bag as Harry sat down next to me.
"We gotta talk." He said and I just rolled my eyes and walked to the gym again. It was empty which I enjoyed. I thought I was going to be alone but Harry followed me. I just jogged into the girls locker room to get my volleyball out my locker. It was pink, my favorite color other than black.
"What do you need, Harold?" I asked growing annoyed by the second.
"I want to talk."
"About what, Harry? What could you possibly need to talk to me about?" I snapped, serving my ball against the wall, aiming for the target I had painted on years before.
"I want to talk about the fact that I fucking like you."
