Chapter 14
The Day I Got Annoyed
Liam sits across from me, his arms folded.
"Well?" He asks.
"Well what?" I reply, flicking bits of dried pancake batter off the counter.
"How are you going to save my dad? I think you should come up with a plan... Do you know when or how he's gonna die?"
I look up and catch his eye. Maybe I should tell him the truth?
Nah.
"Well for starters he dies riding a car or motorbike so that's why I.. You know.. I thought it was his." I explain and Liam nods, understanding.
"Okay. So how long have we got to come up with a plan then?"
I hold up my wrist, showing him the number 12 in cursive.
"I'm a human stopwatch. 12 days to go." I sigh and run my fingers over the mark.
Before Liam can reply a thud sounds from the living room followed by a shriek and we both head in that direction.
I wonder if...?
I grin and jump through the door like a-
Nope.
With a loud thud and a splintering sound, my head hits the floor and I inhale suddenly.
Okay so I can't walk through doors, or breathe fire. (Still annoyed about that by the way)
But I can fix motorbikes and give them a respray?
Damn confusing ghostly powers.
Liam stifles his laughter and holds his hand out to me, trying to help me up.
My hand flies up to grasp his and goes right through. Great.
Another stupid ghost thing.
"Go check on Maisie." I tell him and he steps over me and out of the door.
Seconds later, Maisie runs in like a small tornado and looks over at me.
"I like your wellies, I only have red, green, blue, pink, orange, black, yellow and rainbow ones."
I nod and she clambers onto the kitchen stool, grabbing a cookie then jumping off again.
"What was the crash noise?' I ask her, getting up and pulling my dress down.
She thinks for a minute and takes a bite of her cookie.
"I fed ov de sofaaaa." She giggles and sprays a mist of crumbs onto the floor.
At least ghosts don't have to clean.
Liam walks into the kitchen and points a finger at Maisie.
"No cookies before 12! You know the rule!"
Maisie giggles again and runs towards the door, bumping into me on the way out.
Wait did she just-?
"She didn't go through you!?" Liam exclaims and my brows furrow in confusion.
That was odd.
Just then, a metallic twinkle sounds and a middle aged man appears who I can only presume is Liam's dad.
He smiles at Liam and then walks towards me, to hang his keys up.
My eyes go wide and I try to stay still and let his hand go through my shoulder.
He turns to look at Liam and that's when it happens.
His hand hits my shoulder.
He turns, his face scrunched up in confusion and I duck, scrambling across the kitchen to stand by Liam.
He hangs his keys up and mutters quietly "That was strange. I could've sworn someone was there..."
Liam looks at me and I widen my eyes and shrug.
"Maisie! There you are! How are you, honey?" Liam's dad, Andrew was it? Hurries out of the room and towards the living room.
Me and Liam look at each other for a second then we simultaneously shake our heads.
He goes to speak and I hold my hand out.
"Before you ask me why or how that just happened I don't know so just-" I hold a finger over my lips.
"Liam, I'm taking Maisie to the park and for ice cream, I'll be back around 2!" Andrew shouts.
"Okay!" He yells back and he waits until we hear the click of the door lock to speak again.
"I know how we can save my dad."
