Chapter 12
The Day I Got A Hat
I have woken up in some weird places in some weird situations but never one quite this strange.
I was hanging upside down on the sofa; my feet at the top of the back and my head hanging down.
My bedraggled hair was in my mouth and the smell of burning was filling my nostrils. I jumped up quickly at that, thinking that the house was on fire because in my sleepy haze I forgot that I was dead and therefore, I wouldn't get hurt in the slightest.
Of course, the big jolt when I hit the cold wooden floor woke me up from that sleepy haze just fine.
I closed my eyes for a few seconds more, yawning and stretching out my arms.
When I brushed my hair back away from my face (And mouth..ew) my eyes were confronted with a big, ombré cat.
Who was sitting less than a foot in front of me.
Holding a dead bird in it's mouth.
I tried to hold in my scream but when you're faced with a mangled bird in the early morning whilst lying on the cold hard floor, I think I have the right to.
But wait, it's about to get a little bit weirder.
As I'm screaming my head off and this cat is just tilting it's head at me, Liam runs in.
Wearing a tiara.
And a tutu.
With his face covered in flower.
This is the point where my screams of terror turn into a fit of giggles and Liam just crosses his arms, looking at me stonily.
Minutes later I am still laughing and eventually, Liam begins to laugh too.
In between our fits of laughter I find the time to sit up and manoeuvre myself back up into the chair, away from the dead bird.
Our laughter dies down just in time to hear a small voice ask "Whats so funny?."
I look over to the door and see Maisie, dressed as a princess, flower all over her face too.
Liam coughs and looks at me frantically as we try and come up with an excuse.
"Say the cat farted!" I exclaim and Liam nods.
"Uh, the cat farted?" He answers her and Maisie furrows her eyebrows.
"Okay then."
The cat starts to climb up the armchair and it settles itself on my head.
I look up at my cat hat and groan.
That's when Maisie begins to laugh.
"Ailsa! Get off her head you silly kitty!"
Both me and Liam look towards Maisie and she just grins.
She takes a deep breath and begins to speak super quickly. "Mummy told me you'd be coming, do you want a tutu? Ill go and find you one then! Liam come help me! Kitty, come here!"
The cat leaps of my head and follows Maisie out of the room and I smooth my hair down, glancing at Liam.
He just grins and points at my head.
"You should have seen your face when that cat jumped on you!"
I raise an eyebrow at this. "You can't exactly judge, Mr. Tutu Flower Face!"
"LIAM COME AND HELP ME!" Maisie yells and I head towards the bathroom.
"Come down at 9, my dad will be gone by then." Liam says as he heads out the door and I nod, shutting myself in the bathroom.
I splash my face with some water and run my fingers through my hair before straightening my halo.
I spend my time being nosy around Liam's room and trying to levitate things with my non existent ghostly powers.
At nine o clock, I go downstairs to find Liam and Maisie eating (and wearing) pancakes in the sitting room.
They look pretty engrossed in an episode of Dora the Explorer so I decide to explore myself.
The first room I come across is the kitchen. It's small and red and the smell of burning is still slightly lingering in the air.
The kitchen leads into the garage and that's when I freeze. Next to an old, faded red car, there is a sleek black motorbike.
I think it's time to start saving Liam.
Step 1: Break the bike.
How hard can it be?
