Chapter 16

The Day I Laughed

"Yeah. 'Oh' pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?" Liam says before letting out a throaty cough.

I stay silent for a few seconds, thinking.

"Why was it her fault? Was she driving the car?"

Liam shakes his head, sighing.

"I was arguing with her, on the phone. She was shouting at me and-"

He stops and looks me right in the eye.

"Oh who am I kidding? It wasn't her fault, it was mine. All mine." He holds my gaze and I'm the first to look away.

"I forgive you. Just help me save you-r dad and we're even."

I reach over to pat his arm but stop a few inches away, realising my mistake.

Liam just glances at my hand sadly.

"Okay. I think I can do that."

We offer each other a small, slight smile and stay in a comfortable silence for several moments.

A knock at the door breaks the peace and Liam jumps up. Without saying a word, he heads for the door and I follow him and wait in the doorway.

As soon as he opens it a small, red headed girl rushes in and before I can blink she has Liam in a lip lock, pressed against the wall.

I look at Liam's shocked face and put two and two together.

"Oh... So this is Kaley?" I raise an eyebrow at this and fold my arms.

Liam nods and breaks the kiss, much to Kaley's obvious disappointment.

"LiLi! It's so good to see you, did you get my texts! We haven't spoken in like, a whole week honey poo!" She exclaims pulling Liam into a hug.

"Should I give you two a minute.. ?" I ask, on the verge of laughter.

"Stay, please." He says loudly and Kaley squeals.

"Well, if you insist baby. I'd love to spend time with you! You know, when you didn't turn up on our date I just had to come and like, check on you my honey badger. I can't live without my LiLi." At this, she grins and pinches his cheeks.

One look at his shmushed up face and my laughter can no longer be held in.

"Whap dape?" Liam asks and Kaley drops his cheeks before twirling hair around her fingers.

"The cinema, we arranged it like, 3 days ago!" She huffs, crossing her arms.

"Excuse me a minute!" I yell and Liam looks towards me.

I grin and walk into the kitchen, grabbing a new bowl of popcorn.

"Omg like, what!" I hear a crash and grin.

I think things are about to get interesting.

When I walk in again, Kaley is hitting Liam with her shoe and simultaneously applying lipstick.

Aww damn. What did I miss?

I sit on the floor in the doorway, munching on my popcorn.

"Do I even want to know?" I ask Liam and he shakes his head.

"Nope."

Kaley throws the lipstick at him, leaving a small pink trail on his cheek.

"What do you mean nope! I'm your girlfriend! Why wouldn't you want to meet my parents!"

Liam just slumps against the door and rolls his eyes.

"LiLi!" She screeches and I wince.

"What now?" He groans and Kaley steps back.

"I know why you're being like this! I didn't mean to kiss David, it just happened. I would never cheat on you cutie pie!"

I laugh. "OH NO SHE DIDN'T!"

Oooooh I have an idea!

"Liam! You want to break up with her right?"

He nods.

"Pretend to be wounded, hurt-" I clutch my heart. "-Broken and distraught! Make her the enemy!" I yell and Liam winks.

He takes a deep breath and I eat another piece of popcorn.

"Kaley, you're right. I know about the kiss. I've just been so hurt, so wounded!" Liam wipes a stray tear away and I can't help but giggle.

"I'm so sor-"

"Save it!" Liam puts a finger over her mouth and turns away. "I can't look at you. I can never see you again!"

Kaley pats his shoulder. "Sugar puddle-"

What is with these names?

"-I'm so sorry! I'll go now. I'm so sorry, you deserve better." Liam nods sadly and slowly closes the door, pushing her outside.

I hear the click of her shoes down the path and as soon as the sound disappears, he turns to face me and fist pumps the air.

"Halla- FRICKIN- louia! She's finally gone! Thankyou!" He exclaims and I raise an eyebrow.

"No need to thank me, Sugar Puddle." At the pet name Liam shudders and I throw some popcorn at him.

"She was interesting..."

"That's one word for it."

Then we burst into a fit of laughter-

-Just as Liam's dad walks through the door with Maisie.

Now just think about what's happening in his perspective.

His teenage son is sat in front of the door.

Hysterically laughing.

Lipstick running down his face.

And throwing popcorn at the 'wall'.

Yeaaaah.

I'd be worried too.
