Chapter 15
The Day I Asked Questions
"That is a terrible idea!" I exclaim, throwing popcorn at Liam in frustration.
"Hey!" He looks annoyed for a second before catching the popcorn in his mouth and smirking.
"Well what then? We've been through every possible situation and we are getting nowhere!" He throws up his arms in frustration and I nod.
For the past few hours we have been sat on the sitting room floor, discussing possible anti-death ideas and making popcorn. (The majority of which is now either on the floor or in my hair.)
Lets just say that it's not looking too good.
And it's completely pointless anyway since Andrew isn't going to die anytime soon.
Liam is.
Sigh.
"Scarlett!" Liam clicks his fingers in front of my face and I nod.
"Yeah?"
"I have an even better plan than my previous 7." He grins and I resist the urge to roll my eyes.
"Go ahead."
He nods and sits crossed legged in front of me.
"Right so, we can stage an emergency on that day. Something that will stop him from leaving! Maisie feeling sick, a party, a movie marathon. If we can create a diversion, something to just keep him inside of the house then everything will be fine, right?"
He looks at me, eyes filled with hope and I smile shakily at him.
"We can do that."
He grins and puts a handful of popcorn in his mouth.
I glance at the clock and stand up.
"Your dads coming home soon, we should really start tidying up."
Liam shakes his head.
"Him and Maisie are visiting my Grandma, she lives in Bristol. They'll be back later tonight."
"Oh, I thought they were-"
"He texted me an hour ago, don't worry. Maisie wanted to see her... Ever since mum died she's visited Anne-Marie every weekend."
Liam looks down and I fidget a little.
"She says Hi by the way." I smile and Liam sits up.
"Y-You've spoken to her?"
"She says that you shouldn't have brought that bike."
Liam's eyes widen and he looks up.
"I know."
We sit there for another few minutes before Liam sighs and starts to pick up the popcorn.
"You know, I literally know nothing about you. And you're in my house. Saving my dad and eating my popcorn."
"Yeah. Funny, huh?"
I throw some popcorn into the bowl and detangle the corn from my hair.
"Well, ask away... We'll take it in turns." I say, grabbing the bowl and putting it into the worn coffee table before jumping on the sofa and getting comfy.
"Okay. Sounds good."
Liam sits on the arm of the chair, his arm across the back of the sofa.
"So, what's heaven like?"
I grab a pillow and put it behind my head. "Like a mixture between a hospital and a police station."
Liam frowns. "Sounds boring."
"It was. Death isn't exactly a picnic you know. Speaking of, did I die at the hospital or on the roadside?"
Liam looks down. "The roadside. I'm really sorry about that... Again." He runs a hand through his hair and sighs.
"No problem, your turn."
He thinks for a moment. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"No, do you?" I raise an eyebrow.
The corners of his mouth turn up a little "No, but I do have a girlfriend." He scratches his head. "Or maybe an ex girlfriend now..."
I move closer to him. "Ooo sounds interesting, do tell me more."
"Her name is Kaley, she was sweet, kind, funny... She was the girl of my dreams when we started going out."
"Was?" I repeat, curious.
"She's kind of the reason you died."
"Oh."
