Chapter 19
The Day I Made Plans
Alice turns towards me and holds her arms out, grinning like a Cheshire Cat,
"Come on, Bestie. Bring it in."
I step forward and hug her, the scent of Chanel perfume wafting into my nose. Alice has always had expensive taste; being an only child to fairly rich parents has it's perks. Like fancy birthday parties, new gadgets, designer clothes and the ability to smell like a greek goddess 24/7.
When we both lean back, she smiles sweetly before hitting me on the arm with a thump.
"Hey! What was that for!?" I exclaim, rubbing the spot. Alice and her violent tendencies.
You know, we once spent 10 days volunteering at the local animal shelter all because she had a crush on one of the other volunteers. On day 10 (After 9 previous days of flirting shamelessly.) his girlfriend turned up and all hell broke loose.
Lets just say that poor girls nose will never be the same, and neither will the guys- you know... 'Nether Regions'.
"Dying!" She exclaims, her hand darting out for another brownie.
I take a brownie myself and can't help but roll my eyes.
"Alice! I didn't die on purpose, you twonk. Anyway, I might get to come back.. That's why I'm here!" Alice looks at me and her mouth opens, giving me a lovely view of the brown mushed up goo in her mouth.
I place my brownie on the work top and shudder. Well that's put me off food for the next week.
Hey, can ghosts even eat food? Or drink?
Hmm, we'll have to come back to that.
"Whage! Yurohgough!" She grins and jumps up and down.
"Okay, contain your excitement!"
Alice hugs me again and we jump around in a circle.
"Omg! Tell me everything! Seriously, all of it!"
Liam coughs and I glance towards him, feeling a little bit guilty.
"Oh yeah sorry Liam. This is Alice, Alice this is- Wait? You already know him.. You just walked into his house...?"
I look back at Alice and she smirks.
"Omg are you two-!?" I raise my eyebrows in a suggestive way and Alice giggles.
"Of course not! I babysit for Maisie and he forgot to pay me last time." She gestures to Liam who is looking a little offended.
"What do you mean of course not? I think you'll find that I'm quite a hit with the ladies." He folds his arms and huffs.
Alice just laughs. "What like Kaley? She was a real ray of sunshine, really. Great job with that one Liam." She claps; slow and sarcastic and Liam just scowls.
"Ill go and get your money, stay here."
Liam rushes upstairs and I turn to Alice.
"Okay, we really need to talk. How about Costa?" I glance at the clock.
It's 4 O'Clock.
Nah, it's not enough time. To run through death, lies, scary guy, parents and whatever else I need to get off my chest. Also, Alice is full of gossip. And I am a teen girl; gossip is my oxygen.
"Tomorrow, okay?" I ask and and she nods, embracing me in yet another hug.
Liam appears at the door holding a crumpled £20 note and waving it about in a bored fashion.
Alice senses that it's probably time to go.
"See you then, about 11 okay? Agh, I can't believe this! You know, my Mum can see ghosts too? Yeah, we had "The Ghost Talk" last year. Anyway, speak soon. I can't wait for tomorrow!"
Alice walks out of the door (grabbing yet another brownie on the way out.) and grabs the money, she blows me a few quick kisses and then she's gone.
I sigh and look at the washing up.
"Liam?"
He looks from me too the washing up and shakes his head.
"Nope. No way in hell."
I give him my best puppy eyes and he squints.
"If you're trying to be charming, you're failing. You look like you need a laxative Scarlett."
"Oh come on! I saved your life today! Please!?"
He grumbles and walks over. I grin.
Yay! No washing up!
Liam stops a few feet away from me, grabs a brownie and frowns.
"Why can everyone else hug you and I can't?"
"Don't change the topic!"
"I'm being serious, it's really bugging me."
"Uhm... I don't know? Try again?"
He reaches his hand forward and it hovers on my cheek.
"That's so weird. Your face feels like jelly." He says and I cross my arms.
"Yeah, you're crap with compliments."
He grins and I can't help but grin too.
"Go on, try it."
I reach my hand out and punch his arm.
"Hmm, you're right. It feels like jelly."
I think about the washing up.
"But Uhm... Strong jelly. Do you work out? Your hair is really nice. And you smell like manly roses and spice and-"
"Aww, that's so sweet!" He grins and half pats me on the head.
"Tha-"
"But I'm still not washing up." And with those dreaded words he walks off, eating the brownie in one bite.
After all that I'm left with 4 brownies and a tonne of washing up.
Damn it.
