I jolted awake for the second day in a row. I looked around the foreign hotel room, taking it in.
It was dark, meaning it was still night. My sister was laying next to me, sleeping peacefully. She was curled up with Chester, the little pink unicorn. Everything was fine.
Still shaken up from the nightmare, I remembered Haven and snatched her off the bed. I cuddled her in my arms, trying to remove the dream through her soft fabric.
"You can't be controlled...." The little girl's voice hissed in my ear, reminding me of the dream. I clutched Haven tighter, willing the dream to go away.
The floor creaked. I whipped my head up, grabbing the pistol I had hidden under my pillow. There wasn't anyone in our room, but the creaking continued. It was coming from the hallway, moving slowly towards our door.
Reaching down, I picked up the machine gun I had laid on the floor next to the bed. I poked Lucy, trying to wake her up.
"Lucy! Lucy, wake up!" I whispered fiercely.
She sat up groggily, rubbing her eyes. "What?" She said loudly.
I shushed her, but it was too late. The creaking stopped outside our door, the shadow looming underneath the crack. I quickly pulled Lucy off the bed and placed her behind me. Crouching down, I quickly loaded the heavy gun in my hand. She followed my actions, lo using her shotgun with shaky hands.
A hand pounded on the wall three hard times. I'm surprised the door didn't break. Lucy flinched at every one, but I stayed focused. Aiming the gun at the door, I waited quietly for it to open.
A voice sounded from the other side. "We do not wish to hurt you. We only want the strong one."
Lucy raised her eyebrow next to me. I shrugged back and kept my aim on the door.
"We have this place surrounded with Ki-Chus. All we ask is the strong one willingly hands herself over," the voice informed us.
Lucy's eyes widened with fear as she heard the words. I bit my lip, thinking to myself. Who's the strong one? Who do they want?
After a few moments of silence, the voice spoke up. "If you will not come out, we will come in."
As soon as the words were spoken, the door flew open; splinter flew everywhere. I covered Lucy with my body as the wood pelted us. I bit my lip from crying out as the wood hit my back. I knew without looking I was going to have bruises.
I looked over the side of the bed to see the intruder. It was a man, but he was Hazed. Blue streaks shot through his black hair; his eyes shone like hard ice as his gaze sweeper the room. He was surrounded with a blue mist. It pulsed and moved around him.
Two more Hazers stepped in behind him. One was a woman; the other was a man. Their ice blue gazes scanned the room as well, searching for us.
Before they could lock their gazes with mine, I pulled down on the trigger of the machine gun that I had trained on them. Bullets erupted from the large weapon, pelting the three Hazers with lead and fire. They all collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
Lucy screamed in my ear the whole time, ripping my eardrums to shreds. I slammed my hand over her mouth once I had killed them. Lucy's eyes were pouring over with tears, sobs racking her chest. She tore her gaze from the dead Hazers to mine; a look of pure terror penetrated me.
Lucy was scared.... of me.
"You... You killed them!" She gasped out, tearing my hand from her gaping mouth.
I nodded, staring at her. "I had to."
She stared back, but she looked at me as if I had three heads and had just ripped a puppy in half. "How could you?"
