I knew something was wrong with Maia before we left, but I decided to leave it be. I knew from experience that if Maia didn't want to talk, she wasn't going to talk.

We traveled across two whole towns before Maia finally let us stop.

"This is where we're staying tonight. Get to bed and rest," Maia ordered as soon as we walked into the new hotel room. She walked into one of the three bedrooms and shut the door behind her.

I sighed. There was definitely something wrong with her.

"Do you know what's wrong with her?" Damien asked.

I shook my head sadly. "No."

He sighed. "I just thought it was with me, but she's just a bundle of anger."

I faced him, tears forming in my eyes. "It's more than that. Something is wrong, but she won't talk to me. Something clicked inside of her, but I don't know what."

Damien frowned and placed a hand on my shoulder. "It'll be okay. She'll come around."

I nodded and wiped the tears from my eyes. Damien gave me a sympathetic smile as he rubbed my shoulder.

Maia walked out at that moment.

Her eyes narrowed at Damien as she saw his hand on me. I opened my mouth to warn Damien but Maia was already on him.

"I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM MY SISTER!" She roared, pouncing on him and knocking him to the ground.

Damien screamed as Maia clawed at his face and pulled his hair. "I didn't do anything!"

Maia growled and continued beating him senselessly. I tried to peel her off of him, but Maia was much stronger than me. She just pushed me away as she continued pounding him with her fists.

"Maia, stop! He didn't do anything!" I screamed.

She whirled around, facing me. "I told him never to touch you. I told him if he did, I would either kill him or leave him for dead. He didn't listen, so now I have to decide which one I should do."

I shook my head. "No, you don't! He was comforting me because all you have done since yesterday is shut me out and push me away!"

Maia glared at me, her fists clenched. She was silent for a long time before she spoke. "I haven't shut you out yet. Not completely. But if that's what you want, then that's what you'll get."

She closed her eyes, breathing deeply. I watched her closely, wondering what she was doing. Damien watched as well, probably wondering the same thing I was.

After a few seconds, Maia opened her eyes, and I almost gasped.

Her usually dark hazel eyes shone black, boring into mine. They were emotionless, not letting a hint of what she was feeling show. Her body was rigid as she faced Damien.

"Do what you want. Just stay out of my way," she spoke. Her usually soft voice was cold and harsh.

I suddenly realized what she was doing. She was shutting down her emotions, not letting anyone in or any emotion out. She had only done that once before, and that was after she hit the sewer floor after watching Mom die. She stayed in that state for three months, barely speaking to me.

Tears started to pour over my eyelids, realizing what she had did. Nothing I said could bring her back now.

Maia slowly turned around to face me. "I'm going to go find some more food. I will be back."

She picked up the trash bag we used for food and walked out.

Damien looked at me after she left. "What's wrong with her?"

I stared at the door she had just exited, tears continuing to gush from my eyes. "She has completely shut down. There's nothing we can do now."

Damien looked at the door; a sad look was on his face.

"She's gone," I whispered, crying harder than I ever had before.

I know this isn't much, but I thought I'd let you know about what Lucy was thinking during Maia's shut-down.

Did anyone else feel bad for Lucy? I sure did. That's messed up.

So, please comment and give me some feedback. All I can ask of y'all besides read the book. :)

So, that's it for me. See ya.
