"Go to Dallas, they are waiting...."

I jolted awake, clutching Haven to my chest. The room was silent, apart from Lucy's slow breathing next to me.

And apart from the consistent knocking at our door.

Groaning, I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and unwrapped Lucy's arm from my waist. I slowly stood up, stretching my arms over my head. The knocking continued, and I considered shooting the daylights out of the obnoxious person behind it. I quickly threw my hair up in a bun and walked to the door.

I ripped it open, growling at the unfortunate person behind it. "WHAT?"

Damien shrunk back, scared speechless.

I bared my teeth, infuriated and annoyed. "Speak, imbecile. I didn't wake up this early just so you can stare."

He gulped. "Uh, I was wondering when we were going to leave."

I stared at him. "It's freakin' sunrise! We aren't leaving until Lucy wakes up, which will be a while. I suggest you go lay down and get some beauty sleep. You need it."

I slammed the door in his face.

Lucy grumbled in her sleep. I slowly walked back to the bed, but I knew I wasn't going to go back to sleep anytime soon. I grabbed a bag from underneath our bed and pulled out my drawing supplies. I kept colored pencils in there for special occasions, so I grabbed those and a pencil sharpener, too.

I juggled the supplies in my hands as I went into the living room. I set my art supplies down on the couch so I could grab a snack to eat. I picked up the trash bag off the floor and grabbed a bag of Spicy Nacho Doritos.

While I munched on my Doritos, I picked out the things I would need to draw. A pencil to start. Brown, skin-tone, blue, pink, and yellow colored pencils to add color. The sharpener to sharpen and an eraser to erase my mistakes.

I tossed the bag of chips on the table next to me as I wiped my hands together to get the seasoning off of them. Once I deemed my hands clean, I picked up my sketchbook and placed my pencil above the paper.

I allowed my heart to take over my drawing again. I didn't pay attention to what I was drawing, but to the sunlight that came through the open window. It ran across the ground like golden honey leaking from a jar. It oozed closer to my feet as the sun rose higher in the sky.

I didn't even check my drawing once I finished it in pencil. I just traded out colored pencils when needed as I continued to gaze at the sun's warm glow. It warmed me as it licked my feet with its warmth. I smiled softly to myself as I filled myself with warmth and drew until my hands cramped.

A voice chuckled behind me. "You know, you look a lot better when you smile."

I whipped around, standing up in the process. My pencils and book fell to my feet as I eyed the voice's face.

"You won't see it often, trust me," I growled, picking up my supplies hurriedly.

Damien started to move to help me. "Woah, calm down. I was just making a joke."

I flicked my gaze to his, making him take a step back with my hard glare. "I don't care for you or your jokes, Damien."

He crossed his hands over his chest as he watched me pick up my supplies. "Why are you so mean to me?"

His forward question made me pause in my task. "Because I don't like or trust you."

He took a step closer, still watching me. "But you don't even know me."

I growled, "I've never been much of a people person."

Damien chuckled, making me furious. I picked up the last discarded pencil and started towards the room I shared with Lucy.
