A.N./: So, here’s what I’ve decided to do. While I was writing this, I realized what I was writing would be too long to be a single chapter. So I divided it into two chapters, and I will be posting the next chapter later on today. Also, I’ve got this one in both Katniss’ and Tris’ POV. And please vote, comment, and share! <3

Chapter Thirteen: Tris and Katniss

Tris

~Time Jump: Around where they started shooting practice~

After my whole fiasco with archery, I tried my best to keep a low profile. We had done fighting and now we’ve added shooting to the mix. I’m not as good with those skills as I was with archery, but I’m getting the hang of it. After we’re done for the day, Christina, my new best friend, takes me to go update my look. I must admit, I’m not pretty, but she did improve how I looked a bit. When we were finished, we met up with Will and Al, two more of my friends, and found out that Al had wanted to get a tattoo. We all had been thinking about them anyway, so we made our way to the tattoo parlor. Two of the last people I expected to see were bent over their customers, elegantly inking their skin. Tori looked up as we walked in, and after a second, Katniss’ gaze was on us. Al walked around the shop, examining the possible designs he could display on his body. As Tori finished up with her client, I made my way over to her, questions that had been buzzing around in my head for ages ready to be released.

Turns out, Tori didn’t want to talk about my Divergence. In fact, she wanted me to get out of the shop if that was all I wanted. But I need at least some answers. So I grabbed one of the designs off of the wall and told her I wanted that one. She didn’t want to at first, but seeing she didn’t have a choice she complied. We ended up talking about me just a bit. She was somewhat disappointed that I chose Dauntless, saying that I was at risk of exposing myself, and was even more upset when she found out about what happened with the archery. But that was all she would say. After she was done, I examined the three ravens in flight on my collarbone, and couldn’t help but remember what I would think when I saw the Dauntless jumping off of the train when I was in Abnegation.

They look so free, like elegant ravens taking flight, not scared of anything.

I was the first one done with my tattoo, so I looked for a place to sit down. The only open seat, not counting the ones at the tattoo stations, was next to Katniss, who looked lost in thought as she twirled what looked like a little golden pin in her hands. As soon as I sat next to her, she slipped the pin into her boot.

“Hello, Tris.” She said, smiling warmly. She looked about forty, but she was a pretty woman, no doubt. She had dark hair gray-streaked hair that went to her shoulders, but I had a feeling that when she was younger it went far past that. She had olive skin and had a few tiny, almost unnoticeable wrinkles that decorated her face. But what captivated me most were her eyes. They were a normal cloudy gray color, but they looked so… old. So old and full of wisdom that it looked like she held all the answers of the world. There was something so familiar about them. I realized that she too was studying my face, her old eyes growing sad as she looked into my blue ones.

We were silent for a minute, so lost in thought that I almost didn’t hear Christina tell me they were ready to go. I reluctantly got up. The bell at the front door rang and another group of customers walked in, ready to adorn their skin with the different designs around the room. Katniss gets up at the sight of them, ready to get back to work. I need to see her again. There is something about her I have to get to the bottom of. I’ll come back later. She has to have some answers, not just about my Divergence. Those eyes just seem to know too much.

~Time Jump: Later that day~

Katniss

I’m just about finished for today. Tori left a little while ago, and I’m about to go myself. I’m about to start cleaning up my station when I hear the bell on the door chime, signaling that I’ve got a customer. I’m just about to tell the client that we’re closed, but then I see who it is. Tris is standing before me staring at me seriously.

“Oh, I’m sorry. If you’re closed, I can-“ she started hesitantly.

“No, no, Tris, it’s fine. What can I do for you?”

“I, uh, actually came to talk to you.” She says looking at me with her blue eyes.

“Really what about?”

“You.”

This catches me off guard, because I wanted to talk about her. I motion for her to sit at one of the stations and then I take a seat in one of the stools next to her.

“So… what do you want to know?” I say trying to break the silence that had wrapped itself around us.

“Well, there is something so familiar about you, and I think that you have the answer to some of my questions.”

“So, you do know?” I say.

“Yes. I know I’m Divergent. Tori knows too, but she doesn’t want to talk about it.” She says.

“I am too, you know.” I tell her. That day on the hovercraft when I got more than one result, I found out that that was uncommon.

“That’s not all…” she says. “ That pin you had earlier. I… I feel like I’ve seen it before.”

Pulling out the Mockingjay pin, I show her and her eyes widen with recognition. “This pin?” She nods her head and I sigh a bit as I look at the object that formed my life. “You know, there is quite a story behind this pin.”

“Will you tell me?” She says, looking at me eagerly. I look into her eyes and start to tell her the story of the Mockingjay.
