Chapter Twelve
“Hey babe!” Cody smiled, walking towards me.
I continued reading, not saying a word.
“Alex?” He walked closer to me. “Angel?” His smile faded. He placed a hand on my shoulders. “What's wrong?”
“I don't know, why don't you tell me?” I took his hand off of me.
“What?” He looked confused. “Angel, you can tell me. What's going on?”
“Like you don't know! And don't frickin' call me that!” I slammed my book shut.
“What the h*ll is going on!” He yelled.
“Just go away! Don't you have something better to do like sing to fans and call them angels.” I threw my book on the sand and ran inside my house. Of course, Cody followed me.
“What are you talking about!” He followed me as I walked to the kitchen.
“You know exactly what I'm talking about!” I stopped in the hall. “You think you can use me just for publicity? Just so all the magazines can say you're dating a fan? You think you can use me, a pathetic girl who knows nothing about the Hollywood world and spend most of her life reading! Well, I'll tell you what, I'm not going to let you use me! I don't want to get hated.” I yelled turning away.
“Alex.” Cody grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him. “I'm not like that. I would never use you.”
I looked up to meet his eyes. I couldn't tell if he was telling the truth.
“I...I just need some time to think.” I looked down.
“Okay.” He let go of my hand. “Take all the time you need.” He hugged me before leaving.
I didn't know what to think. I didn't know what to believe.
-Three Days Later-
I was sitting on the bench on the patio watching the sunset. I was swinging back and forth when I heard foot steps.
“Hey.” A male voice said sitting beside me. It was Cody.
“Hi.” I smiled continuing to watch the sunset.
“I'm sorry.” Cody said after a while of silence.
“What?” I looked over at him.
“I had no clue you didn't know who I was.” He said. “But Alex, I swear I'm not using you. I care about you.” He took my hand in his.
“I care about you too.” I looked at him. “But I can't go out with you.” I got up from my seat.
“Why?” He got up too.
“I can't get hated.” I looked down at the ground. Not again.
“What do you mean not again?” He lifted my chin.
Oh f*ck! Did I say that out loud?
“Ugh..” I scratched my neck. It's time I tell him the truth. “At my old school, I was bullied a lot. The kids at school used to hurt me. They use to make fun of me about everything. I spent most of this year and last year in a hospital. My dad had cancer and died a few months ago.” I sighed.
Cody stood there speechless.
“Is this why you have scars on your arm?” He rolled up my jacket so we could see the scars on my left arm.
“How did you know?" I quickly pulled my arm away.
“I've seen it.” He frowned. “Why didn't you tell me all this?”
“I didn't want you to know all about my loser life! I bet you'd rather be with a famous girl than a girl who's been bullied all her life.” I walked in the house.
“Alex, wait.” He held my hand. “I rather be with the most beautifulest, smartest, funniest girl I've ever met. Way more than any of those fake girls.” He said making me blush. “I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sorry about what I said about your dad that one time.” He hugged me. Normally I hated people comforting me, but in Cody's arms. I felt safe.
“I should be the one apologizing.” I pulled apart from the hug.
“No need to apologize.” We looked in each others eyes.
“I bet you never expected to fall for a loser.” I smirked.
“You're my loser.” His eyes glowed. I could stare into his gorgeous, blue eyes all day.
We were smiling at each other for what seemed a long time before Cody leaned in to kiss me. Our lips nearly touched before the door flew open.
