Epilogue
It’s been more than a year since Cody went on tour. He’s been all around the world. Going to places in Europe, U.S, Canada, Australia and so much more.
The first month was great. Cody texted all the time, we skype every other day, but then that’s when everything changed. He hardly texted, we stopped skyping, I was only talking to Alli and that was once every few days. I spent most of my days hanging out with Jake and the others. My mother met someone at work. They’ve been dating for about nine months now and I think he’s about to move in. Jake taught me how to use the social media sites and that’s basically how I found out Cody was dating some model. It was strange at first. I mean, he didn’t even break up with me, but I guess if you haven’t talked to someone in months that means the relationship was already over. While Cody was in Europe, Jake and I visited Alli in L.A for a week. Ryan and Kenny lived there too so Jake and I spent some time at their house. Even though Cody and I haven’t talked, Alli and I were still close friends. Her and Ryan got back together.
“I think it’s time you move on.” Alli said to me one day when Jake went out with Ryan.
“I have.” I admitted and it was true. I remember the day I found out Cody had a new girlfriend. I should of been upset and as much I wanted to curl into a blanket and cry, I didn’t. Instead, I went surfing with Jake and Josh. The water helped me relax and it made me forget everything like it washed away with the tides.
It was December, 24th and I was baking brownies while my mom was gone out on a date. Outside, the sun shined through the windows, but the trees rocked back and forth from the crisp wind. I heard a bang on the door, but assumed it was the wind. I continued mixing the ingredients, but the doorbell rang violently.
“I’m coming!” I yelled cleaning my hands on my apron and walking over to the door. I open it to find a tall boy shivering in his hoodie.
“What do you want Jake?” I roll my eyes letting him in.
“I have a surprise.” He smirks closing the door behind him.
“What?” I sigh. Jake’s surprises are the worst.
“That party you’re throwing tonight? I’ve invited some people that I think you’ll be happy to see.” He winks.
“Right.” I sigh going back to the kitchen and putting a batch of cookies in the oven. Tonight my mom and I were throwing a Christmas party. I wasn’t looking forward to it, but my mom was so excited. She’d been planning it since November.
“Wanna help me set up the stuff?” I say pointing to a box. My mom expected me to decorate the house and set up the food table while she was on her date. Jake, being the kind, but annoying guy he is, offers to help me. An hour later, the house smelled like cookies and had stockings, candy canes, lights and a mistletoe around the house.
“Thanks Jake.” I thank as we sit down on the couch. He turns on the TV as I lay down and rest my legs on top of him.
“Hey, you two!” My mom smiles coming inside with her boyfriend, Tomas.
“Like the house?” I wink. My mom nods before telling me to go get ready. I say goodbye to Jake and Tomas before going upstairs and getting ready. Normally, I hate wearing dresses, but my mom bought me one for my birthday so might as well. I got ready within 40 minutes as I heard the doorbell ring.
“Honey! Jake and his family are here!” My mom yelled from downstairs. I opened my door and walked down the stairs.
“Holy shit, you’re not ugly for once.” He laughs. My hair was curled and I was wearing a red skater dress with black knee high socks.
“Not bad yourself.” I slap his arm. He was wearing black pants with a grey cardigan and a white shirt. His hair wasn’t messy for once.
We sit by the table as people start to arrive minutes later. I turn on the music as Elvis plays through the speakers.
“Do you wanna go outside?” Jake asks opening the door. The sun set early and the air was cool and relaxing.
We step onto the deck and sit on the steps. Jake starts talking about what he got his siblings for Christmas as I watch the waves crash against the sand.
“So.. Alex..” He clears his throat. “I’ve wanted to-”
‘Ah!” I feel a pinch to my side and fall onto the sand.
“Surprise!” I hear a familiar female voice behind me. I get up and turn to see Alli, Ryan and Kenny standing behind me.
“Oh my god!” I exclaim. “What are you guys doing here?” I hug all of them.
“Jake told us you were throwing an awesome party and we couldn’t miss it!” Ryan laughed.
“I’ve missed you annoying people!” I smile. The last time I saw them was two months ago when Jake and I visited them in L.A.
“Let’s go inside! It’s cold!” Kenny says turning on his heels and walking inside.
Alli and Ryan begin walking behind him as Ryan turns and grabs Alli by the waist.
“Mistletoe.” He looks up. He smirks dipping her a little as he leans in and kisses her. She touches his cheek kissing him back. Jake and I awkwardly stand there watching them kiss since they were blocking our path.
They stop kissing and turn to face us.
“Sorry.” Alli blushes stepping back a little. We continue talking as I see a couple walk inside the house.
“Oh my god.” I whisper. Jake seems to notice my tensionous because he looks by the door and sighs. Alli and Ryan turn around to see what we were looking at. The same blonde haired boy I haven’t seen in a year entered my house and he wasn’t alone. Beside him was a tall, beautiful girl with a slim body and gorgeous hair.
Cody was in my house. With his new girlfriend.
I awkwardly tried to move past Alli and Ryan when someone grabbed my arm and turned me around. Jake held me by the waist and pulled me close to his chest. I looked up to see we were above the mistletoe That’s when he leaned in and our lips met. Jake Thurpp kissed me.
