I left the cafeteria holding back tears. Nancy called to Jonathan who confidently walked out with us. The blood was pounding in my ears so loudly that I couldn't hear. I wasn't going to let anyone see me cry. I held my head up and jogged to the school parking lot. Once I got there I just stopped and started panting. I was breathing heavily and gripping my hair. I felt so cold. I rubbed my bare arms and buttoned the shirt, that I now wanted to burn, all the way up. I heard the crunching of gravel and knew Nancy and Jonathan were coming.
   "Dani!" Nancy called. I didn't turn.
"Dani please what happened!" Nancy said coming to my side and trying to look at my eyes.
      "When's the next party happening?" I asked.
   "What? Dani that's not important. Tell me what happened in there." Nancy said cupping my face.
    "Nancy. When is the next party?" I asked again.
        "Uh probably tomorrow maybe tonight I know someone on the basketball team is having a party." Nancy said shrugging.
   "I want to go." I said.
"Okay sure fine. But Dani what the hell happened in there?" Nancy said getting annoyed.
    "Ugh. Steve told me Billy's friends had a bet with him that he could hook up with a girl for each day of the week and apparently I was number six." I said getting upset.
"I don't want to talk about it." I said shrugging Nancy's hands off.
She looked at me with pity in her eyes. We heard the bell ring from inside and she took my hand as we walked back inside. We entered the crowded halls. We moved with the stream of people going into different classes. Some people whispered about lunch or still my scar. I didn't care I felt too numb to far anymore. We got to Mr Murphy's class and walked to our seats. I sat in my usual window seat and Nancy sat in her usual seat right next to me. She reached over and rubbed my hand with a caring look in her eyes. I softly rubbed my hand back and smiled.
"Okay class. Romeo and Juliet. Who is going to be who, let's find out." Murphy said taking a plastic cup full of names off of his desk. I turned to Nancy.
"Oh shit, yesterday he told us he's picking the cast at random." Nancy whispered.
I turned back to Murphy and watched him shake the papers. He called some familiar names to play random characters. He called Nancy's name when choosing Juliet's nurse. I glanced at her and acted so proud and she pretended to be so excited. I giggled as I faced the front again.
"Now we are down to our last few main characters. Okay, Romeo, will be...James!" Mr Murphy exaggerated. James nodded.
"Okay, now for Juliet... oh, perfect. Our Romeo and Juliet expert... Daniella!" Murphy said pointing to me. I nodded in acknowledgment and looked to Nancy who was winking. Murphy called the rest of the cast and some extras.
"Now that we have the cast, you will all get scripts," he said passing scripts down our aisles, " and rehearsal starts tomorrow." He said. Just then the bell rang. As I collected my things James came over to me.
"Hey Daniella I'm excited to be your Romeo." He said with a chuckle. I smiled at him.
"I'm excited too. Hopefully you'll be a good one." I said teasingly leaving the room. He followed me.
"If you ever want to rehearse together I'd be down." He said walking next to me. I smiled. We got to my locker.
"I mean if I could maybe have your number we could rehearse whenever." He said. I chuckled at his 'suaveness'. I wrote my number on a piece of paper and gave it to him, he smiled.
"Don't lose it." I warned. He chuckled it tight.
"Of course." He joked. I looked around for Nancy who I saw coming jogging down the hall way.
"Hey Dani! Me and Jonathan are staying after today because he's helping me set up the dance and plan with student council. I know you probably don't want to stay I'm making Jonathan because he's helping with the phots.I'm sorry." She said.
"Well there goes my ride but don't worry Nancy I can wait for yous to be done and maybe help." I said cringing because I didn't want to be around the student council snobs.
"Uh, if you want I can drive you." James said happily. I looked from him to Nancy who nodded encouragingly.
"Oh, James I wouldn't want to put you out of your way." I said.
"It's no problem really I'd like to." He smiled. I finally gave in and agreed.
We said goodbye to Nancy as James and I made our way out to the parking lot. As soon as we left the building I could hear the obnoxious laughter. I knew Billy and his friends were still here and outside. I looked up and saw billy starring at me, I quickly looked away. James smiled at me as we walked towards the parking lot. He made friendly conversation and I held it to make sure not to seem upset. As we got to the parking lot James noticed Billy and his flock and rolled his eyes. We walked towards his car. We had to walk past the flock of dicks to get there. As we pasted them I heard snickering and then it stopped. I continued talking to James.
"Behold a bunch of douches in their natural habitat." James whispered to me. I laughed out loud. I could feel Billy's glare intensify. I shivered.
"Are you cold?" James said getting closer to me and holding me around the shoulder rubbing up and down. I smiled.
"Hey!" I heard a voice call as we arrived to James's car.
