I looked at the necklace with tears in my eyes. It didn't matter that he was sorry, he didn't come to see me. I shoved the note back into my bag.
"What's that?" Aunt grace asked as she entered the room.
"Oh, it's a gift that someone gave me." I said touching it sadly.
"It's very beautiful. Dani I'm sorry you have to leave. I know this must be hard for you. It's just you can't stay by yourself." Aunt Grace said rubbing my arm.
"I know, I just don't want to go to New York." I said tearing up.
"Well, where else could you go?" Aunt grace asked solemnly.
I thought for a long time. Then I remembered the money I stole from my dad when Billy beat him up, and our plan to runaway.
"California." I said quietly.
"You can't be serious Dani, it's clear a crossed the country!" Aunt grace said dramatically throwing her hand on the bed.
"I could do it Aunt Grace! I have money and a plan!" I said standing up getting excited.
Aunt Grace rubbed her forehead and pinched between her eyes.
"You're serious about this?" She asked with a worried look on her face. I fiercely nodded.
"I just need to go back to Hawkins to get the person I need to go with!" I said practically begging her.
"I don't know Daniella." She said.
"Please Aunt Grace! My mom's dead, my dads in jail! You live in New York! I'm an adult I know I can do this!" I said getting on my knees to plead.
She suddenly stood and moved to get her purse. She grabbed her car keys and turned to me.
"Well, I'm not going to stop you from pursuing your dreams." She said with a small smile.
I gasped and swung my backpack onto my back. I engulfed her in a hug and kissed her cheek thanking her. Before I knew it we were on our way back to Hawkins. I had butterflies in my stomach as we drove. I directed Aunt Grace to the Hargrove home. When we pulled up I grabbed my duffel bag from the trunk.
"Thank you so much Aunt Grace! I love you." I said outside the car looking through the window.
"I love you too Daniella." Aunt Grace said we a small smile.
I took a deep breath and turned to the front door. The blue Camaro was now in the drive way. I walked onto the porch and gently knocked on the door. The door swung open and Susan greeted me. I said hello and asked to see Billy. She told me he was in his room and ushered me into the house. I walked to his room and heard his blaring music. I tapped my fist on his door.
"What!" Billy yelled as he opened the door before freezing when he saw my face.
Before I could say anything he hugged me tightly. I hugged him back and started to cry. I felt his shoulders shake too as he cried into my neck.
"I thought I was going to lose you forever. I was such an asshole to not come see you before you left." Billy cried quietly.
I lifted his head and cupped his cheeks. I wiped his cheeks with my thumbs.
"I could never leave you. I love you." I smiled through happy tears.
He kissed my lips roughly as I tasted our salty tears between our lips.
"Get your shit. We're going to California." I said ushering his view to my duffel bag.
His face turned from a confusion to pure joy.
"You're serious?!" He said excitedly. I nodded
"I told you we would runaway together one day." I said smiling at him.

The next morning we threw my bag and Billy's into his trunk before his dad got home. We smiled at eachother as Max came outside.
"I'm really happy that you came back for him." she said looking at me happily.
"I am too." I said looking up at Billy.
"You two will have the best time back in California!" She said hugging both of us.
I hugged her back and Billy hesitated before eventually embracing her back. Billy and I got into his car and turned up the radio. He turned to me and held my hand bringing it to his mouth to kiss my knuckle. I smiled at him too as we drove down the highway towards the West Coast. Towards our happily ever after.
