Day 24 - Write about a lesson you've learned the hard way

Hmm.... This is kind of a hard one given that I can't exactly think of many times I've learned things the hard way.

I was usually a child that would do as they were told (usually out of fear) so I never really learned the hard way on things.

So we'll go with something simple.

One thing I learned the hard way: You can't always trust the people you think you can.

I'm very picky about who I trust. As it is there are only 4 people in my life who I trust with literally anything.

I do NOT trust easily. At all.

I've had to learn this the hard way many times, but Ill go with my first memory of it.

Of course now when I look upon this, its not a big deal at all. I wouldn't care if it happened to me to this day, but as a 12 year old this was embarrassing.

Back in... 2012 I believe it was (so technically I was 11) My church still did VBS.

For any uncultured sack of lemons that don't know what I'm talking about, VBS stands for Vacation Bible School.

My mum was VBS director at our church for a long time, random fact, and recruited lots of help.

One of the teachers was a lady by the name of Brianna. She also became my guitar teacher a year later and was my guitar teacher for a good year or two. She was really kind, I loved her and her kids! They were the most adorable little beans!

So of course she was helping out, but that year she brought her younger brother to our VBS, this kids name was Ryan.

Don't ask me why, because I never got the nerve to talk to this kid until a year later at VBS, but I liked him.

And of course, me being a small 12 year old with a small crush went and told my friends. I told 3 people. Madi, Sarah, and Laura. This was back when I thought Laura was trustworthy.

(I want to clarify that today I do trust Laura, it was just this incident that made me not trust her with my secrets for a few years until we became close)

So I told them, told them not to tell, yknow the usual.

Now fAST FORWARD A YEAR TO THE NEXT YEARS VBS FAM LES GO

Its the Friday before VBS which meant we were having our usual VBS carnival at our church. We had a bounce house, snow-cone machine, popcorn machine, face painting, all sorts of mini-games and sometimes a petting zoo!

Madi, Laura, Sarah and I were all talking and I don't remember for the life of me how it went down or who told me, but I ended up finding out that Laura told my secret from last year.

To her mom.

Yeah, bet you were expecting that to be a lot worse, huh? Bet you were expecting it was Ryan himself, or even his sister but no it was just her mom. I don't know why I was so pissed. Probably I was afraid she would tell my mom...? Yeah that sounds right.

So Laura told her mom that past week the "secret" and I was pissed and I like, ignored her the rest of the day I was sO mad and decided to never trust her with a secret again.

And I didnt.

....until a year after I started dating my first boyfriend.

To be fair she wasnt supposed to find out, she stole my phone at a sleepover and saw our messages, put it together. I was forced to trust her but she never told a soul. Even after our fallout in October she still never said a word despite being really pissed at me.

I'd say she's definitely trustworthy now, especially since we're friends again.

Oh and in case you're wondering, hell yeah I have Ryan stories lol. The year I found out Laura told the secret is the year we ended up talking a lot (thanks to Madi bc that little extroverted introvert had a crush on Ryans cousins, or well, one of them. They were twins)

Someone remind me to tell these stories in the near future before I forget them forever. Really funny stuff there xD

Also I haven't seen that kid in like, 5 years I wonder what he's up to.

Time to go find him on instagram

Im kidding
