toronto life

"So, the dinner tomorrow is at 6 and I hope you brought something like semi-formal kind of, my mom takes thanksgiving dinner super seriously." His last comment makes me choke on my hot coffee. Why would he invite me if she takes it seriously? What if I'm not suited for it? Will she and the rest of his family hate me? Should I wear the mint green tight fitted dress, or the blouse with blonds and the grey dress pants and black heels? Maybe the last one is better? Kind of gives a more professional style, and more casual vibe. That might be too casual though- "Adria." I snap out of my thoughts and look back at Shawn over in the other comfy chair. "Don't worry about it. They'll love you no matter what." I try to look convinced, but I know it failed when he comes over to my chair and takes my coffee from my hand and places it on the coffee table. "Come on I want to show you something."

"Okay."

He takes my hand in his and drags me away from the living room and down the hall. My hands seem small in his, and they fit almost perfectly, except for the fact that he's holding them wrong. Like the way that is OCD and literally hurts your soul. At least they are warm, and it compensates for the loss of my hot cup. He doesn't let go until we're inside the studio he has. At last he leads me down to the mixing tables, and motions for me to sit down in a chair. I do as I'm told, and he does the same and opens up the computers and the programs installed.

"I made this demo that I'll bring to the company because I really want this to be on my next album, or for it to be released as a single. They've heard it before, just not a clean cut." He presses play on a track and soon, heavenly guitar is filling my ears. I can't describe it in any other way than absolutely breath-taking. I sit in awe, and that doesn't change when he starts singing as well. The sound is so real, and it sounds like he could be doing this live, no autotuned or anything, just pure beautifulness. After a little it has a dynamic change and the guitar is louder, takes up more room, and it all intensifies.

When the track is finished I sit there without saying a word. Honestly this one can compete with In My Blood for his best song. Passionate, beautiful, real. Those are some of the words that spring to my mind once I think about what I just heard. "It's beautiful Shawn." I feel like I sound out of breath and I kind of am, so it seems realistic that my voice comes out clouded.

"Thank you. I really like it." His happiness is all over his face and just looking at the man in front of me warms my heart. There is something that makes a person so extremely interesting if they're very passionate about something, and to say that Shawn is that is an understatement. No matter how many hits he produces, he seems to keep his cool most of the time, and I think no fandom could ever have a better role model.

"Shawn, do you think we could try to record something I wrote that can be a cool duet?" his whole face light up and he starts grabbing equipment that is necessary. "Hey dude. Chill." He looks up from what he is doing, and he turns his attention towards me. "How about you listen to it first, to check if you like it?" I say with laughter tumbling from my mouth.

"Probably a good idea, but I'm sure I'll love it."

The sweat is dripping from my hands and onto my pants as we stand on the stairs to Shawn's childhood home. Well, I feel like it does. My mind is telling me to run away, and take the next plane back to London, but I know how bad Shawn wants me to meet his family. I really don't know why this stresses me out seen as Shawn is the sweetest human being, and he must have learned that somewhere. I guess I just want to impress Aaliyah because she's a fan, and his parents because... well, they are his parents after all.
