Cristiano couldn't contain the sigh of relief that escaped him when Liliana's car pulled to a stop outside of the house; he still got a little anxious when it came to being away from his pregnant fiancée.
Moving out of the house, Cristiano couldn't keep the smile off his face as he thought about the fact that they were going to tell their parents today; he had no doubts that it would be okay.
"Cristiano, it's nice to see you again," Roberto said offering Cristiano a shake of the hand, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was missing something and he hoped that everything was alright.
It had come as a bit of a surprise to find that they would be staying at Cristiano's home since Liliana's place was still undergoing repairs.
Liliana watched them for a moment, she was hopeful that Roberto would be thrilled with the news that she was engaged to Cristiano and that they were expecting their first child together.
"It's nice to see you too, Roberto," Cristiano replied as the three of them entered the house, he peeked to Liliana knowing that this was going to change everything for them.
The three headed into the living room where Dolores had been waiting for them, she had flown out earlier than Roberto because he had to work a little longer than expected for their trip.
"How has training been?" Roberto asked making Cristiano glance back at him, he was sure that things were going well for the footballer and it was no surprise that there was still no mention of a girlfriend on the scene.
Cristiano opened his mouth to reply as Liliana slipped away to the kitchen to check on the dinner that she had been preparing all afternoon; he had a feeling that she wanted to talk.
"Excuse me for a moment," Cristiano said flashing the other man a smile before he hurried into the kitchen, he didn't want Liliana doing too much while she was pregnant.
Roberto raised an eyebrow to Dolores as he sat down, he had never seen this side of Cristiano and he had a feeling that there was going to be some sort of announcement today that would change everything.
"They've been like that since I got here yesterday," Dolores revealed quietly, she too had noticed the protectiveness that came with her son and she couldn't help but wonder what was going on.
Roberto grinned hoping that Cristiano had taken the advice that he had given the younger man back in July and finally asked Liliana out before he lost her for good.
Dolores laughed softly as she shook her head at her friend, she doubted that anyone would be happier than him if Cristiano had finally asked Liliana asked.
Cristiano cleared his throat as he looked at his mother and Roberto, he had a feeling that they were trying to work out what was going on and it was time to sit down and break the news to them.
"Is there something you would like to tell us?" Roberto asked looking up at them, he didn't see any reason for them to drag this out if they were going to have good news.
Liliana and Cristiano sat down, they had hoped to reveal the news after dinner but it didn't look like they were going to make it to that point right now.
Cristiano shifted nervously as he looked at Liliana who nodded at him, their parents furrowed their brows at their children wondering what was going on and why the two of them looked so nervous.
"Mãe, Roberto... Liliana and I are dating we have been for six years," Cristiano announced making Dolores and Roberto stare at their children shocked; they expected them to announce that they were dating but not that they had been doing so for six years.
Cristiano carefully took Liliana's hand while they waited to see what their parents would say about their secret; they had been kept in the dark for years and it was bound to be upsetting to discover this.
"I know this is a shock but I asked Liliana to marry me while we were in Portugal, we're getting married," Cristiano continued gently, he hoped that they would be okay with this and he didn't want them to be too upset with the news that they had been hiding.
Liliana watched her father, he had always wanted this and she knew that this would be confusing for them; she wished that there was some way to ease this all for him.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Dolores whispered hurt that her youngest son had kept this from her; she had always told him that she thought Liliana was a lovely girl.
It didn't make sense why he would make such a decision and Dolores felt like he didn't trust her enough to share this special news with her before now; she had no idea what to make of any of this.
"We thought it would be best if we didn't tell anyone until we thought that this was going somewhere plus the less people that knew the less chance there was of the press finding out," Liliana mumbled making Cristiano nod, it wasn't the best reason but they both knew that nothing they could say would make up for lying to them.
The young couple watched their parents as they waited to hear what they thought of the couple's announcement; there was still so much to tell them and this was just the start of it.
"We know that this is a big shock for you but we thought now would be the best time to tell you both since, Liliana and I are expecting," Cristiano murmured with a smile as he looked to Liliana, he was excited about the fact that they were going to have a baby together.
Roberto and Dolores sat silently, there was a lot of information that was being dropped on them but they were stunned at the thought of the baby that was on the way.
"You're pregnant?" Roberto asked smiling at the thought of his first grandchild while Dolores' eyes filled with tears, they hadn't expected this; it wasn't what they had been expecting at all.
Liliana nodded as Cristiano wrapped his arm around her while their parents sat in silence; Roberto swallowed as he thought about his ex-wife, he was sure that she was the main reason that Liliana and Cristiano had hidden their relationship from everyone.
"Thirteen weeks," Liliana confirmed making Dolores nod trying to wrap her head around what she had been told; she had no idea how to feel and she was sure that it would all make sense soon.
Cristiano watched their parents wondering what must have been going through their heads after being told that their children had been dating for six years, were engaged and that they were expecting their first child.
"I'm a little hurt that you thought that you couldn't tell us about all of this... but I understand that you did it for the right reasons, I am happy for the both of you," Roberto explained softly making Liliana nod watching her father, it was never her intention to hurt him or anyone else.
"I would suggest that you don't tell your Mãe about this; she'll do anything for media attention even if it means hurting you," Roberto muttered knowing his ex-wife; he hated the woman that she had become while she had been married to him and even worse how she treated their children.
Liliana nodded, her mother wasn't someone that they could completely trust to keep her mouth shut about her relationship and pregnancy especially considering her hatred of Cristiano.
However, that did mean that she would have to carefully think about telling her younger sister; Stephanie was a mummy's girl and would tell Justine anything if it meant that she was the one being praised and had her full attention.
