“Eleven hours, how are you feeling?” Dr. Tomas asked as she checked Liliana over, the brunette still hadn’t had any pain medication; something that seemed to set Cristiano on edge as the labour slowly progressed.

“I’m feeling okay,” the brunette said making her fiancé shift closer to her, it was clear that the long labour was taking its toll on Cristiano.

The Portuguese footballer looked at his fiancée as another contraction hit, he wanted to do something to help her but there wasn’t anything he could do.

“Give me the epidural,” Cristiano said as Liliana took deep breathes as the contraction came to an end; she stared at her fiancé, who had his hands on Dr. Tomas’s shoulders; he looked like he was starting to freak out.

“No I’m being serious… give me the epidural, I can’t watch her in pain,” Cristiano said making Kátia bit back an amused smile as she moved to calm her younger brother down; Dr. Tomas chuckled softly before telling Liliana that she’d be back in an hour to check on her.

Kátia ushered her brother into a seat, his fiancée was only four centre metres dilated and there was still a little way to go before she had their son.

“Cris… I’m fine, it really doesn’t hurt that much,” Liliana said making the footballer look at her; he nodded softly before he climbed out of his chair causing Kátia to roll her eyes as she left the couple alone. Cristiano wrapped his arm around Liliana and buried his head gently in her neck.

“I don’t know how you are being this strong… I’m scared for you nena,” Cristiano murmured as Liliana stroked the back of his neck with her thumb.

“I’m fine Cris… we both knew that it would take time, but we will have our baby after this,” Liliana said as she moved to cup his face, she could see his worry rising at how long this was taking.

The Portuguese cupped his fiancée’s face as he watched her for a moment, he wished that he hadn’t read what could go wrong doing labour; it was starting to freak him out now.

“Promise me… if this gets too much that you’ll let them do a C-section,” Cristiano said as he brushed some hair from her face, the brunette stared at him for a moment; she wanted to be able to push their son into the world, she wanted to experience this.

Liliana had read of some many celebrities having caesarean and she didn't want to be one of them unless it became absolutely necessary, she licked her lips as she noted the distressed looked on Cristiano’s face.

“Por favor nena,” the Portuguese murmured as he brushed his thumbs against her cheek, he wanted her to be safe and he didn't know what would happen if something went wrong.

“I’ll make you a deal… if my labour goes on longer than twenty-four hours; I will consent to a caesarean,” Liliana said making Cristiano nod slightly relieved at her offering, he didn't know what he would do if something happened to her.

Liliana tilted her head back as she winced at another contraction, Cristiano was dutifully by her side as she rode out the pain; he was amazed that she still hadn’t had any pain killers even though she’d now been in labour for seventeen hours.

Dr. Tomas made some notes as she smiled down at Liliana, the brunette was now six centre meters dilated and she was doing well.

“Cris… could you go and get me a bottle of water or something?” Liliana asked making her fiancée nod as he looked at her concerned, it was clear that she wanted him out of the room so that she could speak with the midwife. As soon as Cristiano was out of the hospital room, Liliana looked at her midwife.

“I want the epidural,” she said as Kátia stepped into the room; she had seen Cristiano leave and wanted to give Liliana some company while he was gone.

Dr. Tomas chuckled and nodded as she stepped out of the room to call the anaesthesiologist to come and place the epidural for the brunette.

“Couldn't take the pain anymore?” Cátia guessed as she sat down next to Liliana, who nodded as she rubbed her stomach; she was starting to feel drained from all the pain that she was enduring.

“Can you keep Cris out while they do it? I don’t want him to know I’m having it done,” Liliana said as the anaesthesiologist entered the room, Kátia nodded understandingly; she knew what Liliana was trying to do and wasn’t going to stop her.

Stepping into the corridor, Kátia bumped straight into Cristiano who looked at his sister puzzled.

“Ronaldo… there is something I needed to talk to you about,” Kátia said as she led him back away from the hospital room; the footballer glared at his sister as she led him away from his fiancée.

“It’s about the wedding; I know you’re the one organising it, I was wondering if I could pass some ideas to you,” Kátia said once they were a safe distance from the hospital room; Cristiano stared at his sister for a moment before shaking his head.

“We’ll do this later Kátia… I know something is going on and you won’t keep me from Liliana,” Cristiano said making his sister pale slightly before he headed back to the hospital room with her failing to stop him.

The two of them walked in just as the anaesthesiologist was placing the catheter into Liliana's back; the brunette winced slightly as another contraction hit while Cristiano moved to her side, already knowing what the anaesthesiologist was doing.

Cristiano glared at Dr. Tomas as she re-entered the hospital room, it had been twenty-one hours since Liliana had gone into labour and she still hadn’t had the baby; the Portuguese footballer was starting to get a little anxious.

“Twenty-one hours… how are you feeling Liliana?” Dr. Tomas asked as she moved to check the brunette over again; Liliana gently squeezed Cristiano’s should in comfort, she knew that he wasn’t happy that it was taking this long.

“Can’t complain… the epidural took the edge off,” Liliana said with a shrug as Cristiano took her hand, his thumb traced back and forth over the back of her hand as he tried to distract himself.

Dr. Tomas nodded as she finished her check over, she flashed the couple a smile as she noticed the agitated look on Cristiano’s face.

“Por favor, tell me it’s nearly over,” Cristiano said desperately, he couldn't take much more of this; both his sisters had, had short labours when they’d had his nieces and nephews, he’d never expected Liliana to go through this for this long.

“Actually I think it’s time to deliver… Liliana, you are ten centre metres,” Dr. Tomas said making Cristiano sigh in slight relief of what she had said; he couldn't believe that this was finally coming to an end.

Liliana watched as Dr. Tomas left the room to prepare to deliver the baby, she felt Cristiano kiss her neck softly as he took her hand in comfort; they both knew that the hard part was only just beginning.

“You can do this nena…” Cristiano murmured in comfort as she looked at him, she had to have all her strength for what she was about to do.
