Everyone was sat on the uncomfortable plastic chairs in the waiting room except Severide and Mills. The only noise was coming from the other visitors in the hospital, cries, screams, laughter. Every time a doctor walked past them all the hope between the group would rise until the doctor walked passed them causing it to drain from the faces of the members of house 51.

"Shay!" called Dawson running through the hospital doors, "I came as soon as Casey told me. How is she?"

"No news yet. It was internal bleeding." Shay said looking at the floor, "They had to perform emergency surgery. Mills had to sign the consent form. They couldn't even wait for her parents Dawson." Shay said breaking into tears.

Dawson pulled Shay close and stood there hugging and rubbing her back.

Just then a doctor walked up the group,"Friends and family of Savannah Davids?"

Shay pulled herself of Dawson and wiped her eyes with her finger tips, "Yes,how is she?"

"It's not great news I'm afraid. Her kidney had split causing great amount of blood loss but we have managed to stop the blood for now...."

"What do you mean for now?" Severide interrupted.

"The liver is badly torn, she ideally needs a replacement, but it was spur of the moment decision that we try and save it. So the stitches which have been put in may not be able to withhold the amount of stress that is being placed on her liver," the doctor explained.

"So she could carry on bleeding. She could die!" Kelly said.

"Severide." Chief Boden said pushing him back to where he was standing.

"No Chief they are giving up on her." He said pointing a finger at the doctor.

"I understand your upset but we assure you we will do everything we can for her."

Finally Mills spoke up,"Can we see her?"

"I'm afraid it's family only." The doctor said about to walk away when Kelly said,"Don't you get it, we're her family."

"Well then I suggest you keep her close. Don't over whelm her though, she has just had major surgery."

"Mills, Shay you go first." Boden said.

"Severide, do you want to see her?' Mills offered.

"Can I?" Kelly asked shocked.

Mills nodded and Kelly followed him and Shay to the icu room, Savannah was in.

When they walked in the lively, bubbly brunette paramedic look transformed. She was pale, her hair in the same ponytail she had tied in the ambulance.

"Hey." Shay said sitting on one of the chairs next to her bed.

"Hey." Savannah said weakly.

"You really scared us." Shay said wiping a stray tear from her eye.

"It's the whole invincible paramedic thing going to her head." Mills said smiling.

"Thanks Peter." Savannah said smiling.

"How you doing Davids?" Kelly asked Savannah.

"Oh well you know it's not every day my liver splits open so I was just savouring the moment." She said sarcastically.

"Seriously how are you?" Kelly said sitting next to Shay.

"Well you know it hurts but it's not unbearable." She said pushing a strand of lose hair behind her ear.

"How long do you think your gonna be stuck here?" Shay asked pouring a glass of water.

"I'm not sure. They want me to go down for a liver transplant." Savannah said unsure.

"Do you want that?" Shay asked her.

"I just don't to have to be in and out of hospital and off work for a long period of time." Savannah sighed, "Plus I would have to have so many tests done to find the right match."

"I'll bring you some clothes and stuff that you might need." Shay offered,"I still have that spare key."

"That would be great, thanks Shay."

"Visiting time is over." a nurse said popping her head round the door.

"Bye honey, I'll bring the stuff tomorrow." Shay said kissing her forehead.

"Bye Sav." Mill's said hugging Savannah and kissing her cheek.

"Bye Mill." Savannah said.

"Bye Davids." Kelly said hugging her,"I'll come see you tomorrow."

"Thank you." Savannah whispered.
