"Annie?" I walked up to my friend.
"Yes?" she looked like she was board out of her mind. I wish I knew the feeling.
"We need one more person for our group, do you have any ideas?" I reached over and grabbed her hand comforting her. She was young and I wish I didnt have to leave her to fix the hole in our group on her own.
"There are a lot of decent kids. How did you make our group?" our group? I hadn't thought of my past often. How did I choose?
"Well, I guess I just chose my best friend and the first person I ever trusted but maybe my advice isn't the best for you to follow." she hugged me crying, resting her head on my chest. I brushed her curly hair with my fingers and held her tightly. I knew this was too much stress for her. I should not have dumped one of my tasks on a child like that. Why can't I just get my work done on my own? Right. I can. If I fail then I'm clearly not a good enough leader wait. Leader. Like an adult, like an adult. I pulled from our hug though I longed for my friend.
"I'm so sorry Annie. I'll put the group together. Just hang in!" I yelled to her as I ran down the halls till I reached Cell's room.
"Cell!" I yelled, panting for my life to return to my lungs.
"What is it Rock?!" he stood quickly running to my side.
"I-I need you to do something for Me." his face flashed with fear and then confidence.
"What can I do?" I stumbled into his room pulling him to the farthest corner from the door and whispered to him.
"I can't lead them the way they need to be led, they need someone who can handle the stress and keep up with the work. They need someone like an adult." I continued to pant as I held his shirt in a white knuckled fist.
"What!? But Rock! They trust you. Do you really think those kids will trust an adult?" I held a finger to my mouth hushing him.
"Trust is earned. Why do you think I let you come here? We have strange ways of learning if we can trust people, you have a lot of peoples trust already and you probably don't even know what you did right?" he nodded and I set his shirt free of my grip.
"I need you to lead them for me. Most of them can help you learn how things work here." he nodded again and I began to walk to the door until he stopped me with a worried voice.
"Where are you going?" I smiled but he couldn't see.
"I won't be around for a while. Don't worry about me, I need you to worry about my kids." I then left the room with him standing in the dark corner shocked out of stopping me.
